yes my friend woke up one morning and she had a jelly substance and it had clots on it... that was the baby.

She felt no pain at all, it happend while she slept.
Its usually later in pregnancy when pain and lots of blood happens.

How far gone was she?

I have had 2 miscarriages, my last one was june this year, I had no pain, no bleeding and an empty womb when I was scanned. I only know I was pregnant as I have had ectopics before so I have blood test regularly to detect early pregnancy incase I have another ectopic. Anyway there are many types of miscarriage. The best way to descibe a m/c is a pregnancy that is no longer continuing, for whatever reason. Mine turned out to be reabsorbed. If she was only 4 weeks along there would be very little to see on a scan, if anything was to be seen it would have had to have been an internal scan. If the doctors saw anything in there they would blood test and rescan every few days to see if the pregnancy is continuing. If not they like to see if the body will sort it out before they perform a D&C.

Ask your friend if she had a blood test to test her Hcg hormone (pregnancy hormone) and whether it was an internal or external scan.
TBH it does sound a little strange to me. She wouldn't have pregnancy hormone in her system if there was no pregnancy, the hormone drops completely within a few days. Maximum of a week I would say depending on how far along she was when the miscarriage happened.

Ask her about the test and scan, if there was no blood test and no internal scan I would say it's unlikely she had a miscarriage going on my experiences.

Just to add, doctors are often reluctant to diagnose a miscarriage on first visit, often you have to go back every few days to be poked and prodded and give pints of blood to be tested, this can be repeated for upto 2-3 weeks before they will happily say you have miscarried. Obviously if a women knows she is pregnant and gets admitted with heavy bleeding that's a different case but with your friends symptoms a small bleed would not be considered a miscarriage without further tests to confirm it

I had a miscarriage at 11 weeks. I had no pain at all but lots of bleeding and large clots. I was out shopping the following day so it is possible she is telling the truth. I had an ultrasound the morning after my miscarriage and you could see the dark spot but with nothing inside the dark spot. If you were not pregnant you dont have the dark spot(I think) and if she was that early pregnant in the ultrasound you wouldnt see a baby. You dont see anything specific that early. I have just had a baby and had an early scan because of bleeding and I was 8 weeks pregnant, you could clearly see the baby that early.

Um definetly NO to the answer by Gemma? When i misscarried the first time, i had NO BLEEDING AND NO CRAMPING i didnt even know until i went to the doctor and my ultrasound showed no heartbeat. We didnt do anything and he scheduled me for another ultrasound 2 wks later to see if anything was differant. well one day i noticed some very very light pinkish color when i wiped ONLY ONCE and then i had nothing any more. You wouldnt have even seen it if you wernt looking for it! after my surgery (something went wrong and caused a blood clot) and that is when my body went into labor and that hurt! But thats MY story. EVERYONE is differant and just like every Labor and pregnancy is differant so is misscarriages and pre term babies! So yes it is possible she was prego... and how would she make up an ultrasound anyways??

The ultrasound is normal for about 4-5 weeks pregnant. you will only see a black dot about the size of a golf ball or smaller. Your brother's GF was definately pregnant at the time of this ultrasound.

If she was 8 weeks along and her ultrasound looked like this, I would say she is miscarrying or her dates were off. A gestational sac that small is a sign of miscarriage. At 8 weeks you can see the baby, it's about the size of a kidney bean and you should be able to see the heartbeat.

I've known women to have complete miscarriages in a day. One lady came in for an ultrasound at 6 weeks and her ultrasound was normal. 2 days later she came in for light bleeding and the ultrasound showed nothing inside her uterus. She did not bleed any further and she said she only noticed bleeding for one day, but she miscarried, and she was definately pregnant. She was definately more hurt emotionally than hurting physcially. She said she didn't even have cramps.

Also - Gemma - hospitals will not tell you if someone was seen there, IF they have already been discharged. The only reason you can ask if someone was in the hospital is if they were still admitted or if they died. - HIPPA rules. They can't share private info like that.

ALSO - Gemma - i know women that drive themselves to the hospital while in LABOR. i had a miscarriage and I was in horrible pain for 2 weeks but I still drove myself to work and the hospital and I worked while in my cramping miscarrying state.

I had only light spotting and no cramping when I had my 3 miscarriage before my son was born, so it is vert possible. I was back to work a couple of days later. At about 6 weeks along the baby looks like a grain of rice on the ultra sound. That is what my son looked like at 6 weeks.

I wanted to add that a doctor would not perform an ultra sound unless she had a positive pregnancy test, and why would she waste the money to go to the hospital if she was "Faking" it?

I dont really get why you are suspicious of her because everyone is different. However from my experience, after a miscarriage it is usually advisable to go into hospital to check that everything has come away properly but I guess it depends on how many weeks pregnant she is. You mention she had a scan.. how on earth would she manage to get that if she wasn't really preg? Don't jump to conclusions yes u can still walk around as if nothing happened but every woman is different and reacts different too. Usually there is alot of blood though and pain but its not to say that your friend is lying.

Yeah, she can loose the baby and bleed a little, she'll bleed more when her body passes the ovum and lining of the uterus.

They wouldnt be able to see anything at 4 weeks pregnant, only a thicker spot on the wall of the uterus, and it would be really hard to fine, so the ultrasound generally only shows an blob.

I dont think she's lying. early losses dont hurt, and the bleeding can come after.

I wouldnt want to say that she was telling lies, but when i had my miscarriage at 10 weeks, the cramps were VERY painful, although the bleeding wasnt too bad, just like a very heavy period.

Everyone is different though, and everyones body is different too, so who knows.

You need to be sympathetic to her. Maybe she just told you that it didnt hurt because she is embarassed...and if she has had a miscarriage, then she is probably feeling very vulnerable.

That is very possible. She may have miscarried, but not lost the sack or anything yet. It could take a couple weeks for her actually lose the lost baby. If she was only about 1 month along it will more than likely feel like a period.

Yes she could have been pregnant. I have suffered from two miscarriages and felt no pain - although I did have quite a lot of bleeding the 1st time. The 2nd time I had no pain and didnt bleed but had to have a D&C to have it removed
