I found this coat , but its missing a button (gray-its not flat either , its carved) and the lining is very ripped and needs replacement. Does anyone know where I can find replacement coat buttons (online all I can find is military/anchor style peacoat buttons) and how I can fix the lining (if I take to a dry cleaner/tailor, do I have to provide the fabric for the lining?) I really love this coat, obviously, and havent see anything like it the storee so I really wan tto refurbish it...plus the fabric its made of is heavy and good. Thanks in advance for any help!

I dont want to toss the coat, I dont care if it costs as much as a new coat to fix, I like it so much!

I have considered a tailor, but since I havent done this before, ever, I wanted to know if I had to shop for the lining fabric before hand to bring with me to the tailor. And also where to get buttons, cuz I cant seem to find what I want online...maybe there is a site I dont know about it, all peacoat buttons they show on these sites have anchors on them, and this coat is not like that. Its gray and has a sheep fur colloar lining in grayish white with large buttons to match, and interior satiny lining that is pink.

And I know all new buttons is the way to go, but I cant find a site that sells any in gray for coats, or that doesnt have anchors on them. I want them to sort of look like the ones already on there.

I've bought many coats second-hand. My Grandmother always used a Fancy, sometimes completely different button on the top placement. Also ask about repairs done at the dry cleaners. You may find an alteration service while seeking through wedding seamstresses.

I have to agree with answers 1 and 2, and no offense, but surprised you haven't considered TAILOR; even DryCleaner that does alterations and repairs. I'll assume that ALL new buttons would be the way to go also.

You might check into finding an alteration place, or you could ask in your circle of friends if they might know someone who is a good seamstress. You might even check with a home economics teacher at a local high school. As far as a button, you might check at a sewing store.

Toss the coat. If you bought it at a garage sale, it won't be worth the repair. Buy another. Buttons are about 50-$1.00, each

just go to an alteration shop - it may not even cost you that much to get done
