one of my friends claimed they would not let her use her left handed to write while being educated in Belgium......just want to prove how wrong she is...

Not sure about Belgium, but I do know in lots of countries...the left handed are associated with psychological issues. Most places I've heard of are like African & Asian countries and such, but many countries look down on left handed. Some even punish people if they are seen using the left hand too much and especially writing...

It used to be VERY common in lots of countries - including the US - for teachers to refuse to allow kids to write left-handed.

It was felt that it would be better for the kid in the long run to be forced to learn to write the "proper" way.

My Dad (Who's now almost 80) is left-handed, but he writes - and uses a knife and fork - right-handed, because he was made to learn that way. Eveything else he does left-handed.

I don't know if it has ever been illegal, but I know that all around the world, they don't let people learn to write left-handed, and even in America it used to be frowned upon.
