Because people are afraid of anything different. God forbid it doesn't conform to their idea of normal, there must be something wrong with you. It never occurs to them that something could be wrong with them for focusing so much on what YOU look like. It also never occurs to them that you might just be highly intelligent and creative and simply bored with what is considered normal or average. Nope. It's you, and you are clearly depressed or mixed up or violent or some other crap psychosis they can affix to you.

I understand. It's like, no I don't care, but I am damn tired of having to defend it or explain it to every pop psychologist or wanna be pop psychologist who comes along.

Two things come to mind:
I saw two people jaywalking on my way home one day. One punk, one jock. The car stops even though both kids clearly do not have the right of way. Who do you think had the politeness to do the courtesy wave? The punk. So much for rude anti-social behavior.

One night sleeping out for Cure tickets. As the sun comes up the large group of goth kids ahead of us in line pull out Twister and start playing. Do depressed kids giggle and play Twister at sunrise? Just curious.

I had a friend (now deceased) who gave a literary reading in an upscale coffeehouse, and he shaved his head and shaped his remaining hair into a mohawk (also green) just for the occasion. It was brilliant! Also, the fact that you chose army surplus combat boots shows you at least have a modicum of taste. It sounds like you are evolving at the current time. I can tell that you wish it was the 70's, because your fashion palette bespeaks this era. The trick is to achieve success without emphasizing your appearance. We are now in an era where folks with full-body tattoos can get regular jobs alongside buttondown investment bankers. This was not so in the 1970's. Be glad it is the 21st century, because there have been some social awakenings that make it more possible for you to dress as you do and not be automatically discriminated against. In the seventies, it was rebellion; now it is nostalgia.

One question: what is a "filthified" mohawk?

Personally, I don't care what you wear or what you look like. To each his own. Now the hostility is an issue. Way too hostile. Remember, you live in a country that allows you to wear what you want and look as you see fit. Try doing that in Iran or Iraq, etc.

If you are truly comfortable in the way you look and what you wear, what others think about you or say about you should just flow off you like water off a duck. The seventies - been there done that. None the worse for wear. With your attitude, I'm not sure you would have survived. See, we didn't care what they said about us. Let em talk. Oh, and by the way, you dress and look more punk than hippie.

A few years ago I had to ride the subway. A young man wearing leather, studs, etc., wild hair came and sat next to me. You could see the other people on the bus cringe, etc. We started talking. He was very nice, very well educated and we had fun talking while riding the subway. He got off at my station and even walked with me to my car. You can never tell from just looking at someone how they really are. So be yourself, make your statement, and to blazes with those who look down on you.

Yep, get a life. Haha. I don't mean it in a hurtful way. You're in a stage of your life. And you're all talk. Are YOU going to run for a political party? If everyone looks at you like you're a freak, what's that going to do for your election genius?

You're an attention seeker, the whole " I would love for one person to try make a comment about the way I look" And then saying what you wear, it's not like I give a f^ck what you wear or do. But that just screams out " attention seeker "

Have a good life buddy. Try find religion.

I'm not talking behind your back, I'M IN AWE THAT YOUR HAIR WILL ACTUALLY STAY IN THE MOWHAWK!
DARN IT, after I had brain surgery (they shaved both sides of my head, leaving a mowhawk(as I asked))
I TRIED everything, BUT,NO! THE STUPID THING WOULDN'T EVEN STAY UP!
I even have really cool leather arm bands and gloves with SHARP studs and skulls hanging from the band (Sunshine Clothiers, of Berkeley,CA, great store for your punk regalia), and the GREAT earrings, and boots, and colors for my hair (It's black already naturally, so can I tell you how much it doesn't show up?)!
If I'm talking behind your back (not really, I'm usually looking at you full-on), I am wondering HOW YOU DID IT?
aw,man, get a life and don't be paranoid, NOT EVERYONE IS INTERESTED IN YOU!

Too each their own. That is what the guys wearing the real combat boots are fighting for, all of our rights to choose how we dress and what we believe. God bless our soldiers!

Sounds like you're a pretty angry kid. You might come from a small community where people who look and think differently are frowned upon. I'm going to urge you to look past your small community and get involved in making a change, if that's what you really care about. And choose a college that has a diverse population with student groups that will allow you to get involved and speak your mind. It's great that you feel things need to change, but you need to do it productively, not angrily.

They understand.

You're not the ones who are going to rise against all this political nonsense because no one takes you serious when you look and act like you do. I don't mean that in a harsh way, I'm just being honest.

Good Luck!!

I think people understand by your look that you don't care. However, they are simply trying to tell you that to get anywhere in world, you can't dress like you don't care. Besides, when there's a word that describes how you dress, you're not really being different, are you?

Dearie,
How interesting. Your clothing is exactly what we wore in the 1980s when the "punk scene" was original.

Don't get hung up on what others think of you. Do your own thing, even if it is copying things from 20+ years ago.

Have a nice day!
