OK something has got up my nose and I need to moan and get opinions. We are moving to be near family soon. A few months ago I left my freezer in my father-in-laws garage for storage and his girlfriend "lent" it to her daughter to use, which was fine. I now need it back and have been told it "might get broken if they bring it back" and the girlfriend is going to replace it for me for xmas. Apparently its going to be a joint xmas pressie for me, my partner and my six month old baby. Now the reason im annoyed is twofold: 1- she should replace it anyway and not as a xmas pressie and 2- why would a 6 month old baby want a freezer as a xmas pressie! I s not about what I get as a gift but more out of principle, she took freezer, she should replace it! This woman drives me mad!! Am I unreasonable? I know its not really a big deal on the scale of things but I'm annoyed

I'd like to add she is not replacing it from her own money, but from father-in-laws

You're not being unreasonable. Did she "lend" it to her daughter without your permission? How long has she been using it? I would tell these things to my father-in-law first and see how she takes it, because if it comes from you, she might think you're being caddy. Let him know that it should not be considered a joint Christmas present, that's just tacky. If she or her daughter broke it, they should pay for it, flat out. Why the heck would it get broken if they were to move it? Even if she replaces it with your father-in-law's money, you run the risk of getting a cheaper brand than the one you had and that creates a whole new issue.

I'd agree with you. She borrowed the freezer and then it became broken so she needs to replace it anyways- not give it to you as a "present". Sounds like a scam to get out of buying actual Christmas presents. At least she is actually replacing it, I guess.
Oh and I agree on the 6 month old part- how is a 6 month old supposed to enjoy a freezer????? Give him a freaking toy!

I agree with you. They essentially stole the freezer from you, and are now holding it as ransom and trying to use it as a Christmas present. Gee, I think I'll steal my mother - in - law's purse, wrap it up and return it to her on Christmas morning!
Tell them no thanks, that you would prefer to have your freezer back and will take the risk of it breaking. After all, it didn't break when they took it from the garage - why would it break now? I would even offer to go pick it up yourself, as something smells fishy here.

If it were me, I'd be fuming right now! Tell her to give it back NOW! If she's broken it then she has to pay. You need a freezer with a baby! Think of all the frozen baby food!

At least you are getting a freezer. With my family, I would have never seen the freezer again and no one would have ever replaced it.

The present part aside she took and she should replace it. It seems as if she is trying to skirt her responsibilty in this matter. Giving a present to someone to replace what was their you broke!!! She has poor manners indeed. You are in no way wrong to be upset by this incredulous notion.

You have every reason to be bothered by this. Some people just don't think right. They're so used to having everything handed to them that they don't appreciate things. When they do decide to do something they expect the world to stand and applaud. You are absolutely right to be upset. Let your anger out. You'll feel better.... :)
