is it legal to have someone you know buy something for you and use the senior citizens discount? i.e. you give them money and they buy it for you. Don't get your undies in a wad, I'm not actually considering this, just something I thought about...

I suppose it is legal, maybe not kosher. However, I don't think the stores really mind. They are making a profit. The whole idea is to get you into the stores. The mark up on merchandise is high enough to give the discount and still make money.

Don't know why not, but it's the stores right to refuse to give the discount to anyone other than the senior. Classier to not ask someone to call that type attention to themselves. (worry about your own skivvies -- mine are sanfordized so they don't wad)

Think I misunderstood the question: If what's being bought is with a recipiant that's furnishing the funds and is not entitled to the discount, it may/may not be legal, but it's the ultimate in 'CHEAPO' and disgusting.

Yes, I have had my older friends make a purchase for me, so I can get their discount. There is nothing wrong with that. It seems like with the surge of the baby boomers, most businesses have raised the age for the discount to at least 62 and some are even 65. What happened to 55?

I'm sorry but since we seniors get screwed out of money and services every time they trim budgets I have no problem with asking another senior to buy stuff and this was before I was a senior.so I would gladly do it for someone who needed it,such as a low income family or the working poor.

That reminds me of a date I went on. They guy was 14 months older than I am, when he paid the ticket they gave him a 10% senior citizen discount, he was insulted! I said to keep quite and just enjoy his meal. He was fuming that someone thought he was so much older than he really is.

We give senior discounts where i work and i dont ask for proof of age so it is possible someone could be lying about their age but if they look old enough i say they get the 10%off

Might fall into the same category as the handicap plaque that you hang from the rear-view mirror.

I normally wouldn't dream of using it or parking in a handicap spot unless my husband was with me. But, the other day, I was running a quick errand to the pharmacy for him, and I did, even though he wasn't with me.

The only reason I was there was to buy something for him, so I felt justified in using the plaque.

I don't know that it's a legal issue. Probably not a very ethical thing to do. I would do it under certain circumstances.

It may be legal, but i could not see myself doing it. My conscience would bother me.
