He had wife a few wives supposedly, and at one point had a son, though the son was murdered after he died. But he also had many male loves and one love he had had from childhood name Haphaestion, they were lovers best friends and life companions. So though he wasnt gay he surely wasnt str8, he was bisexual. They movie Alexander caused the Greeks to sue the movie producer saying that it slandered a national hero by saying he was had sex with men, how dare someone tell the truth!!

He was with women for sure (he even had a child), but some people say he also liked his best friend, Hephaestion. It's pretty clear in the movie, Alexander the Great (the latest one, w/ Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie)

He was a man who was attracted to other men. He was probably lovers with Hephaestion, his childhood friend, second-in-command, and companion until Hephaestion's death. He married three times, but had shown so little interest in pursuing relationships with women that it was only after concerns had been raised about producing an heir. He may have had a few female lovers in his life, and was probably lovers with the eunuch Bagoas.
"Gay," though, or "bi," are social identifications that would have been completely meaningless to him. They would have meant as little to Alexander as the social identification of "black" would have meant to St. Augustine (who was north African).

It was a different era, with different beliefs. In the Army, it was usual for a young soldier to pair up with an older one as a couple - they believed that having a lover in the ranks helped make them braver in battle because they didn't want to embarass themselves in front of him, or let him down.
Many of the ancient greeks - including many of the most famous philosophers - believed that true love was only possible between two men or two women, because men and women were just too different to know true love with each other. It was therefore not considered unusual at all for even a married man to have a male lover - who of course might also be married.
In the same way, a woman who cheated on her husband with another man could be put to death for it - but for her to have sex with her female friends wasn't considered out of line at all.
The term homosexual was a great insult to the ancient Greeks - but it referred only to a man who avoided sex with women completely - and therefore would not have children to pass on his line.
