the key thing is, why did the russians wait to alert the world.. or even their own people .. it was just pride and their reluctance to tell everyone they screwed up ... some studies suggest as many as 800,000 people and millions of animal have had their life curtailed as a result... This April was the 20yh anniversary and there were some good studies released arounds that time....

Could you give us more detail? It is certainly a fact that it happened and that many people have suffered because of it, not to mention wildlife in the area. My mom's cardiologist was visiting Chernobyl as a student when the meltdown happened. He died earlier this year of cancer at age 42 because of the radiation exposure. Have you seen pictures of amphibians from the area, frogs with extra limbs and the like? Obviously, the Chernobyl plants safety measures failed. I supposed you could make an argument there for adequate (or more than adequate) failsafes for nuclear power plants. Or you could argue whether nuclear plants are worth the associated risks.

The internet should have reams of information on this nuculear power plant disaster at Chernobyl. Just research it on line as you would any other info. Don't be so lazy. Think! This was the first known incident involving a misfunction of a nuculear reactor. Three Mile Island was an accident which was contained within the facility.
