Just recently I got a house phone, only had it for a month or two but almost every day I get calls from telemarketers. I think like the 2nd or 3rd day we had the number in service the calls started. Is there a list of newly activated phone numbers that they get or something? I know sometimes companys will sell or give your number to other companies, but anyway is the Do Not Call List effective at all? If it is I'm gonna try and sign up. But until then I'm gonna freak on the next a$$hole that calls me while I'm at home trying to eat my dinner in peace

I've added my home phone, my entire familys' cell numbers, and the law firm I work for recently began talking about putting their 200+ numbers on the list.

We used to get hounded by telemarketers before the list. When it expired, they started again. I put all of our numbers back on it and it's been nice and peaceful.

Unfortunately I think the do not call list just expired from five years ago, so you have to put your name back on. When you do submit your name for the list, you will not see a reduction in calls until the next interval (which is January, I think). Check https://www.donotcall.gov/

So far it's been fairly effective for me. The only downside is that it only applies to sales calls (cold calls). Calls from companies you do any business with, even if unsolicited, are still allowed, and so are calls to solicit donations. Nevertheless, it does cut back the number of calls significantly.

I'm on the "Do Not Call" list and I hardly get any annoying calls. If I don't recognize a number on my caller ID, I don't answer it. But that rarely happens.
