Someone gave me a bare bones desktop with xp pre-loaded. The only problem is I had to buy a mouse and keyboard for it. It loads to a setup screen that I can't click on or use the keyboard for.

I have a USB MOUSE AND A USB KEYBOARD, but they are not recognized by the cpu. They are plugged, just not recognized.

* Use the tab key to cycle between text boxes, check boxes, buttons, etc.
(* Use shift+tab to cycle backwards.)
* Use enter or spacebar to press the button.

EDIT: To your "Additional Details":
It sounds like Windows isn't looking for new devices before you finish with the "setup screen" business. Have you tried booting into safe mode? (Easiest way is press the reset button on your computer while the Windows XP screen is showing (right before Windows loads). That's guaranteed to get the safe mode option every time. Then, when you go into there, your devices should be recognized. Sorry about my previous answer, I thought you said your keyboard was working -- just not your mouse.

Email me if you have any more questions. And if all else fails and you do not wish to contact me, you can always reinstall Windows XP and see if that does the trick.

Try using a PS2 mouse not an USB the computer has to completely booot first for it to Realize that there is a USB in use. Try that and see if that works. You will have to shut down comptuer to use PS2 Mouse.

You can use a mouse that connects via a USB port.
