Hey buddy, you need to spend some quality time at the gym before things get out of hand.

That should do it.

Actually...you shouldn't tell him! Most likely he already knows! I've known a few friends that got a little chubby over some years, but no matter how you say it, no one wants to hear that they're getting fat. My advice is to just leave it alone.
Well...only mention something about the weight if he starts complaining about being tired, his clothes are 'getting smaller', etc.

so why tell him? does it bother you? is your friend being "fat" gonna change your friendship?

if you answered "yes" to the last 2 questions, then your NOT his/her friend.

there is NO need to "tell" your friend that he/she is fat....trust me...we all know if we gain weight.

and what is "fat"? some gain 5 pds. and think the world is over...some gain 30 pds and still look good, some are obese, BUT...weight should not decide who is or is not your friend.

and what about the walking skeletons you see, should we say omg ...your like a bone?

no, and why, because its rude...and one never knows where skinny or fat if there is a medical condition etc.

If your friend is getting overweight tell them that its in your best interest to help them and you dont want to offend them but your getting bigger.

Or you can do the secret approach. Go places with them and walk alot, exercise more, and give them healthier foods to eat...that way they will lose weight without you having to say it and nobody gets hurt!

Well, I'm sure you friend has noticed, so you don't want to blatantly call attention to it. If you are worried about your friends health, start taking walks and inviting your friend to come or inviting your friend to a healthy lunch.
