I think true conservatives don't mind helping people who actually need it. What they don't like is so much government involvement. When the government is involved TOO much in the people's affairs we tend to get all tangled up in a beauracracy. What I dislike about some conservative thinking is the notion that everyone is on a level playing field and that's simply not true. What some conservatives consider a handout I consider a hand up and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I notice the older I get the more conservative I become on certain issues. I think in any society or government you will have those people who do not want to work for themselves and depend on the government to take care of them. In our country there seems to be a belief these people are primarily people of color. Historically though, people of color have been some of the hardest working people. When Roosevelt came up with his New Deal program most people of color were already poor anyway so you can't say it was them the government had in mind when welfare was put on the table. Over the years though it has been the person of color who is closely associated with draining social welfare resources. Conservatives want to get back to the 1950s idea of conservatism but you have to remember who was enjoying that time period the most and I'll tell you it wasn't a good time for a majority of the persons of color. There's nothing inheritantly wrong with the conservative idea, it just has to be open to everyone and be more realistic in its goals.

2- my car (it's necessary in the big city, I live in Moscow, Russia);
3- and computer of course (it's necessary for my job).
