How in the world did C.C. Sabathia win AL cy young award? Josh Beckett was unbeatable almost everytime he took the mound especially in the playoffs. Sabathia choked in the playoffs. Just my opinion but Beckett is the best pitcher in baseball not just AL. Who votes on these things anyways?

One other thing u have to realize is Beckett didnt throw as many innings, strikeout as many, or have as many shutouts because they were winning by alot of runs and took him out early alot of times.

Well the award is voted on before the post-season starts so you can't really take that into account...regardless I still think Beckett should have won (even though an argument could be made for both Beckett and Sabathia)...I just can't believe the vote wasn't closer...the fact that Sabathia got 19 first place votes and Beckett only got 8 is pretty much a joke.

They both had Cy Young caliber seasons. I can't fault anyone for voting for Sabathia. Frankly it doesn't bother me that Beckett didn't win, just like I didn't jump for joy when Pedroia won the R.O.Y. These individual awards are ok but the important thing is that they won the Series.

The playoffs have nothing to do with it because the voting had already taken place before they started. The results were just released today.

Well, it's a regular season award. Both teams made the playoffs and both guys had similar numbers, with each edging out the other in some areas. I think the writers usually do a pissy poor job, but this time the difference between the two really was a toss up. I'm not shocked and wouldn't have been either way, but you have to keep in mind that the post season in theory has no effect on the voting.

Sabathia deserved it. His numbers were better really. The most important thing though, is the World Series win that Beckett and the Sox brought home to Boston! I wish it wasnt voted on by the writers because Josh Beckett is not a friendly interview and the media gets turned off by that. I think players and coaches should get to vote on it instead.

CC pitched 40 more innings in the regular season than Beckett. Take the playoffs out of it already. Enough people have posted and there is enough internet saturation that anyone with even a scintilla of baseball knowledge or the ability to do basic research should know that the playoffs do not count in the vote, period. CC's stats were comparable with more innings pitched. He had one less win due to less run support. He may have had less run support because the Indians had half the payroll and less firepower (Ramirez, Ortiz...et al.) as players such as Hafner had off seasons. The Indians offense was sputtering the majority of August until they brought up Asdrubal Cabrera. That CC got his 19 wins amongst all this was and is truly commendable.

He has a surprisingly sturdy shot if he maintains to pitch the way he has on the grounds that approximately April 30. His era has been coming down with only approximately each start up- it replaced into over 5 by using his first few starts off. Halladay is going to get quite some votes, if for no different reason than the commerce frenzy that surrounded him final month. Santana did no longer win the award interior the AL in 2007- CC Sabathia did.

i understand that the votes were submitted before the post season and it was based only on the regular season, but Beckett still deserved it. he wasw the majors first 20 game winner in a couple of years, and had similar numbers to C.C. Becket was still more dominat and deserved it over C.C, i believe that the voters dropped the ball here, and they defidently realized it during the playoffs, imagine how bad they crapped their pants when they saw how dominate Beckett was during the playoffs.

I'm a huge sox fan and I have no problem with C.C. winning the CY Young. They should have finished 1-2 like they did and whoever won, good for them. What I have a bigger problem with was 2 writers leaving him OFF the ballot and 1 Leaving C.C. off.

This award should come from players & Managers, not the biased sportswriters.

Yes Beckett shoulda won, but the votes were cast before the playoffs, and the numbers were so close, c.c. had better innings, strikeouts and era. Thats why.

Look on the bright side, we got what mattered, the World Series

Sabathia had a lower era, less walks, more strikeouts, more complete games more shut outs. The only major category Beckett beat Sabathia in was that he had one more win than him. Statistically speaking Sabathia was better and thats what the sports writers look at when they vote.
