I am not aware of any terrorist messages that specifically state that they hate our freedoms. However, the messages seem to constantly suggest the reasons for their actions are about US support for Israel, oppression of the Palestinians, and now the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan.

It would sure seem that our foreign policy is more of the motive than our actual freedoms, especially when you also consider that many other free nations that do not intervene are not under the same threats as the US.

Why is it that the Republican rationale is that we must defend against those who wish to attack because they hate our freedoms?

***Dave B*** Your suggestion that I am jabbing at Bush is baseless as I have said nothing regarding him. This was an issue LONG before Bush came into office and my question is clearly directed at the stance of the Republicans currently as to the motives of terrorist.

Evidently, people are missing the point.

I am SPECIFICALLY talking about the actual translated messages from terrorists. If there is a link to a message from a terrorist stating it is our freedom that is the reason not our policy, then please provide it.

I am not interested in the media's translation of what must be their motive, not when we have actual transcripts of what they are saying.

Your not going to get a good argument for your statement, you might get some righty talking points, but no decent rebuttal, simply because your 100 percent right, And it seems like the people that we go after we have worked with or even armed in the past kinda funny

Good question. The real reason that terrorists denounce and attack the United States is a combination of both. It becomes difficult to separate reasons from rationales.

The very conservative Wahabbi jihadists want to return to the society of Mohammad and see all the social advancements of the West as antithetical to that aim. At the same time, the success of the West is a continual embarassment, and the presence of the United States in the Islamic world is particularly galling because the US is symbolic of great power achieved through secular progress. Notice, too, that France, England, and Germany have also been attacked. Western values and success are, at bottom, the true reason for ultra-conservative Islamic jihadist hatred.

I'm a Democrat, but the reason they say that the terrorist hate our freedom if because Bin Laden's objective is to convert all the west to Islam by force, which is a violation of our Freedom of Religion and Freedom from Religion. He reminded us about this in his last video messege.
Since we have the west's largest economy, they belive that if they destroy our economy, all the other western economies will come down with us. That's why the attacked the World Trade Center.

They'll never win though!

good question. the genuine reason that terrorists denounce and attack america is a mixture of the two. It will become perplexing to cut up motives from rationales. The very conservative Wahabbi jihadists want to return to the society of Mohammad and see all the social advancements of the West as antithetical to that objective. on a similar time, the fulfillment of the West is a persevering with embarassment, and the presence of america in the Islamic international is very galling with the aid of fact the U. S. is symbolic of great capacity achieved with the aid of secular progression. observe, too, that France, England, and Germany have additionally been attacked. Western values and fulfillment are, at backside, the real reason of extremely-conservative Islamic jihadist hatred.

This question is so much more complex then the answers are indicating. Do they hate us for our freedom? yes, but not because we are free ourselves but because we offer freedom to anyone, well at least we used to. And that includes the same people terrorists want to control. So we offer a way out of tyranny for people that the terrorists want to keep control of.

Do they hate us for our foreign policy? yes they do, because our foreign policy is based on what is in the best interest of America and not what is in the best interest of some religous fundamentalist state. That is how it should be .

The point I think everyone on here missed is, what I think the real reason is, because hating America is a path to power and leadership in those cultures that hate us. For example, if you are a politician in Iraq and you want to run the country, you cannot say that you hate Shiites because you will have Suni and Kurds to deal with. But if you come out and attack America then you get the support of the all three factions. Hatred of the US is a unifiying force in those countries that are in our spere of influence who hate us.

Which is why you ge hatred of Russia in those contries that are in it's spere of inlfuence. For a Chechyn rebel to hate America, would get them no place. But to hate and fight Russia is what gets them recognized and power and control.

That is why they hate America, because it benefits them to. To listen to what they are saying on a message is pointless and proves neither point. The messages from terrorists are not intended for the US. The messages are intended for the followers of these fanatics. Ossama knows damn well no one in the US takes his ramblings seriously, so why keep putting out tapes ? Because it's a rallying cry for his followers and is a way for him to strenghthen his position and power.

Just remember, we were under the threat of terrorism and in fact, we did suffer several attacks against us before GWB ever came into office. So your whole blabber about foreign policy that you are using to jab at Bush and republicans doesn't hold water.

One of the freedoms Islamic Jihadists hate is our freedom of religion. That fact go's against everything in their religion, so there's an example for you.

There is no rational reason why the USA is under a terrorist threat.

It is all political (lust for power/money) and perhaps non-profit religious in nature: extremist Islamo-fascists like the Kamikazes of WWII.

The last I knew the Republicans' rationale is that we must defend ourselves "against all enemies, foreign and domestic".
I have neither heard nor read that they hate us for our freedoms nor our foreign policies; they DO HATE US for our successes, economic and military. They do hate us simply because we are not a MUSLIM NATION. THAT is all it takes.

Policy has always ( in my opinion) been the culprit, even for domestic issues. Policy hurts allot of people.
