The infamous Jim Jones began as a religous man, then turned from God citing the inequality and suffering in the world proved there was no God. He began "preaching" and opening up his church to anyone, no matter social stature or race (sounds good right?) , left-wing groups welcmoed him because of his views against capitalism. When he "created" Jonestown, it was to be a socialist utopia, where everyone was equal and all worked for the common good. At first his followers were allowed to voluntarily give to him, but then it became mandatory that each give 25% of their income, of course after they moved to Jonestown, noone had anything of their own.
Does this sound familiar? Will be eventually become another jonestown if we let the left-wing nuts break us down and make us feel we can tmake it on our own?

Yes it does sound familiar to me and for Don C, what a stupid illerate answer he gave. He would have been one of the liberals that didn't think Hilter was a threat in 1939. He needs to go back in History and read some of it instead making stupid statements. 200,000 Kurds killed by chemcial weapons, 100,000 shites masacred. How many people does he think needs to be killed before someone does something about it. Maybe 6-10 million Jews, maybe that would satisfy him and convince him that someone needed to take action. My son will be over there digging up their remains in January and thank God for people like him, instead of being cowards like Don C is. Now I and everyone else knows what the C stands for (coward)

The difficult scenario or question is how human being had lost social or individuals balance. It seem that our linguistic dictate that lost. When we think of "In the beginning their was the word and the word was God" The express was a moment of define imbalance . With other word it mean control self and world at one time. That attempt openly show the root of imbalance how world , life and us being defined forcefully and whet consequences left today. How can we get out of those definition will be paradigm for the balance us, as well the cites of the world.
As we know we live in village now but yet we not lean to see it. Which mean, we do not need to Create cites of Jone or Paul or another Jerusalem .
After all, we have to remand our self. The civilisation started with Cities State and politic meant organising it or keeping it in balance. But we may add to it Eco balanced.
Then it does not matter if we define it as human cite or God cite.

JJ and PT was not right wing and ultra-conservative and some of these posters seem to think......
PT became a socio/polital action group with socialist tenants.........
To compare our current political environment with that of Jonestown is unfounded and off base......
PT/JTown existed almost within their own sphere.........US society in general is too big, our ideas too broad, and our opinions too diverse to ever let 100 beltway insiders turn the US into anything like PT/JTown....
Although you seem to have a smattering of knowledge about PT/JTown, you really dont know much more than what you read in a paper back book. Therefore, your question is flawed.
Also, it's very callous of you to ask this question so close to the 29th anniversary of the tragedy in Guyana.

so, let's assume you're correct... and that's a huge assumption...
so any group that's ever had a few insane members (which Jones clearly was)... we should just discount all the ideas of that entire group?
the right-wing has never had any crazy extremist members... right?
so I would say... no

That is an interesting perspective. I have been exchanging emails lately with a lefty sort, member of the ACLU, trying to get across why our Founding Fathers made Christianity so very important in our government and schools. They opened the Supreme Court and Congress with hours of prayer to God for guidance, cementing the notion that our Rights and what is Good come from that higher power rather than the whims of Men. She just doesn't grasp the connection between removal of God and the decline of society.

you already live in Jonestown
you drink the kool-aid daily
you still think Sadamm had something to do with 9-11
you still think our freedoms are at risk if we leave Iraq
after seeing today that Bush's war has cost the average family $20,000
how much of everyones income is that ?
who do you think will pay down his 9+trillion dollar deficit?

I think that many of the crazed right-wing psychos definitely have an armageddon fantasy (see the "Left Behind" series), but fortunately the average American doesn't support their bizarre cult-like extremist right-wing notions.
