It depends on the person. I never breastfed my babies. My milk came in around day 3 - by day eight it was gone. So for me, it took about 5 days.

Well the added "no chance of breastfeeding" extends the time quite a bit. Even though a woman might seemingly "dry up", relactation is often possible, even months later, but it takes hard work. Obviously there will be some and increasingly less supplementation needed as this process takes place. Even some adoptive mothers, who have never given birth, are able to develop a milk supply.

It is different for every woman! I got my milk on day 5 after birth and I did not breastfeed and it took about 3 months to diminish with cold compresses everyday. You should have a chance if you decided to start a little late or start hand pumping now to keep milk.

It does depend on the woman. The other poster was correct when she said adoptive mothers have been able to bf, even when they have never been pregnant themselves. It takes a lot of work and dedication, but relactation is possible. So, to answer your question, you always have a chance to bf if you're willing to try and do not have a medical condition preventing you from lactating.

It's different for everyone. My best friend stopped producing 2 mos after the baby was born, even though she breastfed all the time. My sis was swollen and still lactating for over a month after she stopped breastfeeding her oldest daughter.

I slowly weaned my daughter at 12 months, and I was still able to get a little out for the first few weeks, but by 1 month it was gone.

Even adoptive mothers have a shot at breastfeeding. Google "relactation" or search for it on http://kellymom.com/
