With the UK having so many different cultures residing here do you think its time to rename Christmas so everyone can join in & celebrate together without causing offence
Maybe this could stop racism if we celebrate as one .
Also it may stop all the waste, hype and over spending that this time of year brings .

They should have taken the T out of christmas years ago here in the states. Why should you need a holiday to be nice and show that you care about people? Shouldnt that go on all year everyday? I dont know about the UK but in the states Christmas is way commercialized and I think it has turned into nothing but a bunch of fake people giving each other crap in return for friendship and caring, why do you need presents to have that? Some people take offense to the fact you didnt buy therm anything, if that isnt audacious I dont know what is. I think if Christmas was abolished commercially and just kept in the church, where it belongs, people would forget about it after a few years. But dont get me started on the church, that is a another whole problem with society.

No i dont agree at all! Why should we have to give up on our celebrations! If we said that about another religious festival we would be told that its in their human rights to celebrate, well its our right to celebrate Christmas and if people dont like it then tough! No one is forcing them into it. Not everyone overspends, overeats and are wasteful. I, for one, are not that kind of person. I dont get into debt, I've never owned a credit card or ever had a loan and that not because "I'm loaded", actually its the opposite, i live on a very tight budget!!!

No. Christmas is a Christian holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus. If you're not a Christian and you don't believe in Jesus, then don't. I don't understand why everybody has to make such a huge deal over it. It's fine that some people believe in Ali, some God, some Muhammad. It doens't matter.
As for the overspending, I agree. In the U.S. it's ridiculous. The focus is taken off of Jesus and put on money and Santa. But it's suppose to be a time for family, friends, and gatherings. Not a time for people to worry and hurry and try to get all the gifts they need.

No it will never be a good idea to abolish Christmas. As for the waste, hype and overspending...each person chooses that, we aren't forced into participating.
We can celebrate with each other in our different celebrations and appreciate our differences.

There is no law that says everyone has to celebrate Christmas. It's here for those who CHOOSE to celebrate. Just like all the other Winter holidays are here for those who CHOOSE to celebrate it. If you don't like it, don't celebrate it. It's not up for you to decide what everyone gets to celebrate. The holidays have nothing to do with racism ect, it's about the opposite. It's about sharing being tolerent of other. Everyone hypes up abot Christmas because they're excited to get to celebrate the time with their families whom they probably don't get to see often. So, to answer you question, no. I like things how they are.

In Leicester, where around 50% are NOT white or even christian, we aren't allowed to put baubles on the christmas tree in Town Square (because it offends muslims in some way? not sure, what I've heard but definately no baubles) Many of the 'younger' Hindu/Sikh people I have asked about Christmas prefer it to some of their own festivals. I believe the Labour thinktank needs to stop pleasing the minority groups and stick to pleasing the majority! I have never been racist in my life, this is just common sense, I mean come on people, its not even treated as religious festivals nowadays, its just a material based theme day.

I think you need a visit from the ghosts of christmas past/presant and future.
I know the hole funfare that is christmas has lost its true value for many but i still keep the age old spirit alive in me.
I think the true message nowerdays is to look in the mirror and see what most of us have become.
And as for racism you really are ill informed.
Most of those middle class white people that attend church on a regular basis are more racist than i am.
There is a difference you know between (church goers) and true christians.

No way !!!

Why should it be abolished, in certain areas of London..I hear Primary schools have been celebrating Diwali ( for Hindus) and Eid (for Muslims) and have closed down just for that one day...plzzzz..dont let anyone put a stop to Christmas though.

I've never known it to cause anyone offence either, i have very close friends from other religious background too, and have never heard it to offend any of them either.

The hype's there in other religious festivities..you go to countries where Diwali and Eid is celebrated...there's nothing new in that too....I'd fight tooth and nail to keep Christmas alive in England if I were you.

xx

No, its people like you who are RUINING this country. If people are offended by CHRISTmas and anything involving God, what this country was founded on, then they should get the hell out. People are free to celebrate things however they want to but the MAJORITY of this country celebrates Christmas and I dont see anyone putting down people who want to celebrate Kwaanza, Channukah or anything else. SCREW racism, it will never end no matter what we do. If people want to overspend at Christmas, thats their problem, no need to abolish Christmas you sicko.

I don't think that we as a society can abolish Christmas but rename the occasion by saying happy holidays because it is universal and celebrate "buy nothing day" because we capitalize the heck out of Christmas when its about family getting together for the holiday.
