I recently received temporary custody of my 4 young grandchildren. When I told my landlord, he said I have to move and said I would have 10 days after receiving eviction papers. I thought it was 30 days on a month to month rental with no lease.

Looks like you're entitled to 60 days notice, if you are being evicted under "normal circumstances." If you've broken the lease (too many people in the apartment), then it may be different...

If you moved in additional people in violation of your contract you have 10 days to correct the violation or move. 30 days is for a normal termination. If there is no contract you could fight the eviction as you would have to violate a contract to be evicted for a contract violation.

I would start my discussion with him around the contract that exists., If none exist I would point out to him that you are not violating the contract as none exists.
