As a Bush apologist, I must point out that if the people of Iraq would just accept Jesus as their lord and savior, we would not be forced to kill them.

What causes conflict and strife is lack of resources (poverty), lack of education (ignorance), and lack of freedom (opression).
When food is on the table, people understand how things in the world work, and are generally left alone to live the life they want - everyone gets along pretty much.
The reason it seems like religion is the problem, is because no other institution is able to rally people together, stoke strong emotions, and usurp rational independant thought like religion. In other words, those with an agenda often use religion to whip up support. The next most popular vehicle for that is nationalism, but it's never as powerful as religion.

For some reason atheists have a no longer hassle-free time admitting that Russia and communist China banded at the same time and slew thousands and thousands of their very own human beings. This under the valid banner of atheism. per possibility they worry we are calling all atheists communists. No. however the factor keeps to be in a incredibly short blip in history. they have accumulated an spectacular murderous checklist. What human beings do no longer % to examine is maximum wars are in many cases approximately grabbing what belongs to somebody else and taking it for your self.some wrongly misuse faith with the intention to objective and motivate a conflict they might in any different case no longer have an interest in combating.

IMHO the tension comes from economic differences, overpopulation and over consumption of resources. The rich are too rich and the poor too poor. Religious conflict is just the excuse and the cover story.

Not nearly as much as gets blamed on religion. Religion can be a powerful tool to rally the troops, but so can national pride and economics. Honestly, violence is just a natural part of human instinct. One quarter of our most basic reflexes are devoted to fighting- the other three being nourishment, sex, and fear. We can't separate ourselves from our violent natures anymore than we could completely supress our sexuality.

Religious differences are one biggie. The other is fighting over limited natural resources - land, water, oil, diamonds, etc.

far too much!

Prooves most people use religion as an excuse to hate who is different, as christians have with segregation and bigotry in the US, and it is often not really a personal, peaceful thing.

Then again, how much crime, disease and mental anguish is caused by an indifference to religion? Most major religions have as a pillar the promotion of peace. When religion is used for evil purposes evil is achieved.
