Although I in no way want a flood of illegals in this country, I do understand the HUGE problem of sending those back to Mexico who have children here in the states, who ARE legal.
What if...
Those illegals are trained in our factories, become part of the union ( at a lower tier of pay for 5 years) , they pay taxes, must take and PASS english lessons and out of every paycheck a small amount goes to the govt to pay their fine for being here illegally.????

What do you think? Would the lower pay scale help bring our factories back to life and get a safe reliable unpoisoned product ?

I am looking for both honest pro and con thoughts...
ACLU types need not respond.

I think wages are low enough here in the US. But I also think that undocumented workers are being exploited by those seeking cheap labor. I like the idea of that those who are here should stay and take the steps towards being a legal American citizen. I also think English as a second language or ESL classes are a great idea. The cost of deporting every immigrant that is here in the US illegally would be staggering. I also like the idea of restoring manufacturing jobs here in the US. We need MORE jobs here to compete with the global market, but undocumented workers shouldn't be paid anything less than the federal minimum wage or what the average factory worker is paid. They've been exploited enough. And we need safer products for the American consumers because clearly China doesn't care about our children enough to make sure there aren't high levels of lead paint in our kids toys. Maybe we could find the average pay of a factory worker and decrease it by 10% and that 5% of it would go to the government as a fine for being here illegally and the other 5% would go into the Social Security trust fund. And with the undocumented workers joining the ranks of our Unions, they would be ensured fair wages, benefits and working conditions and our Unions would be restored to prior greatness and focus on their goal of helping the American working class.

No, that probably wouldn't do it. China has maintained a policy of keeping the Yuan pegged to the dollar at a level far below purchasing parity. This means that chinese can live and work for wages that anyone living in America - even an illegal, let alone an illegal promoted to second-class citizen-to-be, as you suggest - would /starve/ on.

It would also be undesireable, as, like any Amnesty, it sends the message that illegals will recieve better treatment from our Government than legal immigrants. No set of fines, pre-conditions, or schemes can change that.

Who knows it might work.Your government sure has'nt put forth any rational plans that I have seen.I think we need to secure our borders first then institute some kind of plan like you suggest.

Get them ALL out of the country and we'll call them if we need any of them back here.
