I was just wondering if you thought it was wrong for schools to block sites like myspace, or do you think it is wrong to secretly unblock it if it is blocked? I want to know your thoughts on those two questions.

It is the school's network and therefor you must obey their rules. Going around a system network rule can result in some pretty heavy punishment. And remember, the school's IT can tell what web site every computer on the net is connected to. The server keeps a list of visited URL's and the ip that connected to them. I personally do not think it is right to be on sites that the school does not allow.

The school owns the computer. They have the right to block anything they want to. The purpose of school computers is for school related tasks. They don't want to them getting full of viruses or adware or anything else which just well cause problems for others (and cost money for somebody to fix).

Getting around the block is another thing. If you really really have no other way to get to the website (beside just waisting time) then go for it. That assumes you can find away around the block. If you can, oh well. Just know you can get caught! if you are willing to take the risk then its up to you.

Myspace recently shut down 29,000 profiles of KNOWN sex offenders/predators. This means that there are 200,000 or more unknown sex offenders still on this site.
This is a site that should not be accessible to anyone under 18 anyways because of all the problems that Myspace refuses to fix and lack of age/person verification.

I understand your wanting to get on those sites, however, the school owns the system and can block anything they want. On the other hand, security can be too rigid. Consider this: The sysop of the school puts blocks on every imaginable word that could lead one to a porn site. Little Suzie goes to the computer lab to do research on breast cancer for a paper she is doing for a health class. She types in the offending word as part of a Google search and gets locked out of the system. Now, in the name of security and learning environments, who wins in this scenario, the school or the student?

You can unblock websites with a proxy, here are a few:
http://www.proxyvoda.com
http://www.proxyvoda.info
http://www.proxyveda.info
These are my favorite mainly cause these have good servers hosting them and they don't have pop-ups.
Be sure to tell your friends or post them to you myspace page or blog so others can enjoy.

children who are in school should not have access to those sites while in school. of course the schools should block them. school is for learning not for screwing around.
