I don't think so. He's become the most impressive candidate for the republican party.

No his religion shouldnt slant your vote. The fact that he isnt qualified, he's a bigot, and he is just pouring his own money into the campaign should. If he cant even get people to donate money for his cause, why would they vote for him? The fact that he couldnt seek a second term as governor (his approval rating was less than 50%) should speak to how people feel about his leadership. The fact that he's a supporter of the so called enhanced interrogation techniques that's is "not" torture. And the fact he's changed his position on multiple issues such as same sex marriage and abortion. Those are the facts that should slant your vote, not because he's a mormon.

A vote for Mitt Romney, Giuliani, etc=a vote against common sense. Reply: How the heck can you guys give thumbs down for the person below me saying this: "I will not be swayed with religious affiliation if I would like to vote for a president. Voting is an exercise where all prejudices must be set aside." Seriously, what made you think that since they are a human right activists, that is horrible?!?!?! WHAT?!?! They are being inclusive! Why is that bad?!?!

that he is a Mormon shouldn't slant your vote, but the fact that he pushed Massachusetts further into a pit should... the fact that he was responsible for the Big Dig tunnel collapsing should (because he approved the contractors to stay, instead of replacing them with more qualified people)... the fact that he wants to change the consititution to cater to a select group of individuals should...

but no, his being Mormon should not. Just read up on him before you vote.

I don't think it should matter as long as he keeps his religion out of the office, but that is the big question. Will he keep his religion out of the office? From what I have seen, he seems like a decent person that will not impose his religion on the people.

The person that really scares me is Mike Huckabee. I live in Arkansas and he is not nearly as good as he is being made out to be. His answers are always so good in the debates because that is what he has done most of his life as a Baptist preacher. There is no possible way that he can keep his religion out of the office if he were to win.

I am Mormon but deeply opposed to Romney for reasons given by others. I worry more about my Mormon friends and family voting for him BECAUSE he proclaims to share our faith.

Joseph Smith, the founder of the Mormon religion, has been quoted as prophesying that the Constitution would one day hang by a thread and that members of the church would rescue it. I know that this prophecy rings bells in the heads of some Mormons that Romney is THE MAN to do this. I just can't believe though that we're saving the Constitution by electing a man who promises to trample it by continuing to add to an unconstitutional imperial presidency.

Suspecting that this prophecy may somehow drive Romney's ambition turns me against him. Government is always trying to "save" people. It always succeeds in reaping destruction. If the Constitution is to be saved, it will be saved by people who value individual liberty.

Only if you would look at the religions of the other candidates and judge them according to it. Since you are singling out Romney, I suspect that the religion of the other candidates is unimportant to you so vote based on the issues.

Baserunner: There is nothing wrong with someone advocating or passing laws based on their religious interpretations. Religion is basically an interpretation of morality. Laws are also dictated by morality. Unless the person is passing laws that their religion is the only one, they can vote any way their conscience dictates.

I was a Mormon for 20 years and if he is involved with the church his decisions will be influenced by the church. The church is sexist and racist and if the church has told all of its members to vote against same sex marriage and abortion, I don't think they know how to separate church and state. The Mormons also have put up a lot of money to keep same sex marriage illegal, and if you are a homosexual you will be excommunicated so I really don't think Mitt Romney will be coming from an unbiased perspective.

Nope. I'd vote for him, however I wouldn't vote for Harry Reid. Both are Mormon.

Vote for a man based on his merits and on how you feel he'd run the country.

I can't speak for you.
And it isn't my place to fill your head with what I believe is right or wrong.

Fact is, religion should not figure into politics, unless one is of some fundamentalist religious viewpoint...much like extremists in the Islamic and Christian camps.

There is suppose to be separation of church and state.
A presidential candidate needs to act with the understanding that he/she has the support of all the people, not just a particular religious sect.

No. The fact that he believes his sons serve a far better purpose running a presidential campaign than volunteering for a war he supports, though, should slant your vote.

The last thing we need in office is another idiot that has never served and ALSO is a tremendous hawk.

Nope, his religion shouldn't slant your vote. The man himself should, though.
