It is not legal to place it in the windscreen. It has to be placed on the front of the car. Sorry.

You can get away with having it in your windscreen but not long term.

You can buy magnetic and stick down ones to stick on your bonnet or bumper

There is a mitsubishi near my house that has no place on the bumper but it has a number plate stuck on the bonnet

I am guessing your car is American or Japanese? American Cars require no front number plate and most japanese cars seem not to have a place for the number plates

It must be clearly in view but I could argue that inside the windscreen is not clearly in view (dazzle factor for a start if sum is on windscreen) The size and spacing of a number plate id given in a Statutory Instrument ( a power delegated by Parliament) and has the full force of the law behind it

No the number plate must be on the front of the car, not inside it. There simply MUST be a place to fix it - otherwise the car is not legal in the UK.

The laws will vary from state to state, but I'm sure they all require it to be horizontal and plainly visible. I doubt anyone requires it to be centered. Your best bet would be to fabricate a bracket that attaches underneath and bends up in front of the bumper.
