Some people's team like 5 x Champs sign felons and have had rosters loaded with thugs. Jorge Posada is a good catcher and there aren't too many around. The sore loser Met fan who said he would be glad if he got hurt after 20 games, would make him happy. That is sick as one should never wish for a player to get hurt. He should worry about players who don't run out ground balls, a manager who can't motivate a team at the end of a season and Met fans are cry babies. Yes, the Yankees spend , but money doesn't guarantee a winner. Other teams have made signings that seem crazy. Mets sign Pedro for four years, got about 2 years out of him. He pitches 5 or 6 innings and out, when he is healthy. Kaz was a great signing. No team, not the Yankees, not the Mets sign a player thinking he will get hurt and not be able to play. How does Kansas City justify the money for Meche? Salaries are crazy. Part of the Yankees salary is for putting up with George, putting up with the NY press and the NY fans.

Yes they did, and who wouldn't. Posada is getting better with age. Three years ago, he was considered an easy catcher to steal on. Not anymore. His hitting numbers have improved too. After Jeter, He's the guy I want at the plate when The Yanks need a hit the most. (and it will be an extra bagger as well) I would have liked to see a 2 year deal, but I can easily live with 4.

Thats a terrible signing. When Posada proclaimed himself as the leader of Yankees clubhouse, I really thought he would sign for less maybe around $7 million dollars a year for 4-6 years.
Clearly not the case. Posada is not a true Yankee leader. How can you be a clubhouse hero while ripping your own team off when they can go into the FA market and use that money to sign someone like Miguel Cabrera for $25 million dollars a year @ 10 year max?

Posada's numbers over the last 5 years cannot be matched. He deserves a contract that eclipses Varitek and Pudge. Their numbers aren't even close to matching Posada. Posada is overlooked when it comes to defense, and he's worked with 25 different starting pitchers the past 2 years. His presence on this team this year cannot be described in mere words.
If he signed somewere else, it would be detrimental to the Yankees team in 2008.

Baseball needs a salary cap! The Yankees payroll at $194 million (before the deal) was over 70 million dollars higher than the next highest team, the Red Sox. Look at what the Rockies did with just a 40 something million dollar payroll. The Yankees are the best team money can buy!

The Yankees had no choice. They NEED to bring Jorge back even if he will only be good for another 1 year because of Jorge leaves then a huge collapse will happen.

He's THIRTY SIX. And got a FOUR year deal? He's already outlived the lifespan of the average catcher.
He'll be playing first base by year three of the contract. Probably going to break down like Johnny Damon did.
Waaaaaaaaay overpaying and two too many years for such an old player at a position that destroys the body like catching does.

First, no, the Yanks haven't signed him yet. It will happen soon though. Second, how can you be against this signing? Seriously, who is better than Posada? He's by far the best hitting catcher in the game, his defense is underated, and he's one of the leaders for the Yankees. Who cares about the money? He's worth it. Besides, it's not like the Yanks are going broke anyway. I was scared to death that when Torre left, the Yanks would lose everyone but Jeter, but they actually will probably get everyone back, besides A-Rod of course.

The Dude hit .331 last year. Hes great with Pitchers and we have a young staff. He hasn't shown any signs of breaking down with the usual catcher's injuries. He hitting seems to improve with age.
