I have heard that but I think it is silly. Remember she is pregnant though, so you have to do what makes her happy. :o)

It's a superstition that it is bad luck - however it is also superstition that you get 7 years bad luck to break a mirror!! I hadn't even heard of this until my pregnant friend mentioned it the other day - we bought a pushchair before my son was born and no bad luck so far - don't let your wife worry about it!!
P.S We didn't use the pram we used - we got the one we used when baby was 4 days old from a friend - for the first few days you don't really want to do anything - so you could wait and then you can get it while she looks after little one at home.

I've heard that before. I'm not supersticious so I don't believe it, it's basically just a relative of sods law, which I also don't believe in, but always comment on! lol.
It's basically saying, if you buy a pram, sods law says the baby won't live. I can understand why your wife is being like this. I don't see any reason why you can't have a new pram before the baby is born but I think if your wife is supersticious about it then leave it until it's born. I know you want to plan ahead and that's all well and good, but she'll be under a lot of stress while she's pregnant, and if she get's to have her way it'll mean a lot ot her.
Also, people might buy you a pram for a baby shower, if you buy it yourself you're giving everyone a smaller choice of gifts to buy you! Just let someone know which one you want and I'm sure you'll get it when the baby is born. :)
Good luck with the little one!

It's a silly superstition. My mate has had four healthy kids and she had the pram in the house before each one was born. If she's really upset about it, why not get the pram and store it at a relative's house until the baby comes home, that way, you won't be rushing about at the last minute. Good luck....

I have heard this, but it I don't believe it!
We have 3 kids and each one had the pram etc waiting for them to arrive!
it is just an old wive's tale, harking back to the days when childbirth was a more riskier experience. But if it makes your wife feel better, keep the pram at a friends house/relatives/ or in the garage!

Yes that is the superstition and I followed it with both my girls, my mum and nan both told I wasn't allowed the pram in the house. Some places will let you buy the pram but for a small fee keep it for you or you could see if a relative will store it for you.

Hi this superstition is years old, however I have said when I order my first pram I will not be having it in the house as I don't want to tempt fate, having come this far with the pregnancy I wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardise it.
So although it may be bad luck to have it in your house, it isn't bad luck to have it in someone elses house, even if its your parents!
Good luck with the baby, and your wife! lol

Yes I remember It being said when we were expecting our first child in 1964. Usually only applies to the first...We solved things by buying the pram,,, one of the old big coach built jobs, a Marmet, but had it delivered to the wife.s parents house, where it stayed till our daughter was born.... It is only a superstition but ladies, when expecting,. do not want to take any chances...

if your wife is worried about it being bad luck could you not just buy it and maybe keep it at a relatives house until the baby arrives or you can ask the shop to store it for you until your ready to pick it up, i didn't want a pram in my house while i was pregnant so my mum kept it for me

No,never, not at all !
You can buy all that you feel to buy before you deliver the baby, well in advance. Nothing bad about it nor any bad luck associated with it ! In fact here in India, the gods are worshiped in idol form and the stories abound on their childhood, making baby god in place also for worship! So, before birth of a baby the couple would keep the things they plan to use for the baby near the Lord's feet, may be an idol or hand drawn or printed picture of the Lord in baby form, to shower his blessings for the baby to wear them all and to be comfortable!
