Better he do that than when the baby is in the car but no you are not overreacting...The smell lingers and clings to the seats and comes back throught the vents when you turn the heater or AC on. Your baby is still getting second hand smoke. Ask him polietly not to do that.

You are not overreacting but perhaps you ought to be more concerned about that fact that he is smoking at all. He will most likely want to be around and healthy enough to enjoy his baby growing up into an adult who hopefully will not also smoke.

The fumes from cigarrette smoke stick to clothing, skin, hair, and anything else that it comes into contact with. When I had my child, I made anyone that smoked wash their hands and change their shirt before holding her. She's 2 now and doesn't have any problems.
On the other hand, both of my parents smoked like chimneys when my mom was pregnant with me and AFTER I was born. This is true for all of my brothers and sisters, also. None of us have had any problems.
Check with your doctor, obviously, but in the end.. it's completely up to you and what you feel comfortable with.

That's horrible. If he's self-disciplined enough to wait until the both of you are out of the car then how much harder is it to just open the door, step out, and light his cigarette a few feet away??? The smoke sticks to the seats, the car ceiling, and anything else in vicinity.
Take it from me, an ex-smoker, to console him to do the right thing.
