It would be very easy to travel afternoon and night that day, you can even get $49 ticket from southwest airline.

The new airline Virgin America has good prices, you should check their website

( i made the search for you and looked for a flight on Dec 24 and was at low as $49!..i couldn't copy the link cuz' shown "page can't be display" so try it by yourself and good luck)
Just an advice if you gonna fly on dec 24Th try to buy your ticket as fast as you can because of the prices.

I would think most of the traveling public would like to be at their destination before the 24th. I've traveled on both the 23rd and 24th and they have been lighter travel days compared to other days. Check traveocity.....
