I know, I know.....my cranky attitude suggests I need help, but I'm too cranky to get it. But that's beside the point.

I ran into an old hockey buddy the other day. Really, I literally ran into him with my shopping cart at Walmart. And we were talking about old times when the subject of the Islanders first Cup win in 1980 came up.

He was saying it was Butch Goring that was offside, I remember it as Bob Nystrom, and his wife says it was Clark Gillies in the infamous game that the Isles won in OT.

Now, I don't particularly care that it happened but if I want to seem like I know my stuff I want to get the name right. My bud says that I'm getting old but I say that even a superior intellect like mine can be affected by the abuse that 40,000 beers, acres of herb, and my weight in other goodies can inflict on such a fine specimen such as my brain.

So can one of you help me to recall what I should be able to recall on my own?

And while you're at it, who was the referee that did a Stevie Wonder impression on the play?

Dag, the ol' steel trap is getting rusty......

On the overtime goal, nobody was offside (Nystrom, Tonelli, and Merrick) and you can watch the video on You Tube a thousand times to see.

On the Islander's 4th goal however, Duane Sutter was clearly offside, I remember yelling at the screen myself. It's funny, I don't think that video is as prominently available to be scrutinized.

After looking it up, the linesman was Leon Stickle

I found a link, but Yahoo won't let me post it!

Stickle was the linesman, I think the goal you are speaking of was actually Sutter. If I can remember it right. I am getting old too!
