Well, there is something called a chemical pregnancy, in which the egg is fertilized but doesn't implant itself, and the woman gets what she thinks is her period, but in reality it's considered a type of miscarriage. Many women have experienced this without knowing it. With a chemical pregnancy, a pregnancy test does show up +. I have had a couple myself, I was a couple of days late, took a test, and got a +... only to get my "period" the next day.
So... yes, you can miscarry without knowing it... and then become pregnant again.
The person who said that a miscarriage is painful... well... she's half-right. Emotionally, the pain is always great. Physically, one doesn't necessarily have much pain, not during all miscarriages. I had a miscarriage, I was 10 weeks along... I barely had any cramping.
As for "falling" pregnant... I have learned on Yahoo Answers that this is what they say in the UK. :) Am I correct?

My sister has lost a few, she gets pregnant again right away if she isn't careful.

I would hazzard a guess and say NO. A miscarriage is painful. And you don't FALL pregnant you 'get' pregnant.
