if time is constantly changing, then why do we have a present, past and future... would there not only be a past and future if the present constantly becomes the past and was only future before it happened....

if you exist on all three plains, then why label them as individuals, would they not only be a singular plain...

if we exist on all three, would it not actually only be one plain. furthermore, what we do now is past...as soon as we do it.

2007-11-13 05:29:02 · update #2

there are many current situations...however, as each one passes it is past...second by second...present is not all inclusive.

furthermore, i do not believe in right or wrong...time will always pass, and we each create our own reality as we want it.

You are very closely right, in the Japaneses culture they teach their people: the past doesn't exist, the future either, and the present is an infinitesimal part of the time 1/n when n=infinite, this equal to "0" so the present either exists. This conception of the life and the time tends to make the people happier, because mathematically we don't exist, the Tibet's monks goes deeper into this transcendental thinking.
If you rationally think all this is true, although collides with a reality of our physical presence, but also they think the time is an invisible line coming from the infinite and going to the infinite, that line crosses a plane infinitesimal thin where the conscience is present, we call that the life, that line supposedly would cross indefinitely many times some planes in the "spaces", that is the way they also explain and understand the reincarnation.
The results: few people are concerned about the importance of the life, and to die means for them only a passport to a better place. Suicide and terrorism are fed by these belief.
So with this theory they try to respond the eternal questions: Where are we coming from, Who we are, Where are we going to.

Technically, I think your argument is almost correct. When time is viewed as you describe it, then the present would be only an immeasurable instant in length, and thus would be of negligible importance.

But the term "present" is actually perceived and used quite differently. It is an indefinable length of time, sandwiched between the present and the past. Its length in terms of days or hours is subject to individual interpretation. It is a construct, not a reality that can be measured by a clock. Yet we humans find it useful and convenient, and intuitively we share an idea of what it means, even though we cannot quantify it. An example of how we use it is: "Presently, I am attending school in Pasadena." In that case, the present would be a continuum of time during which the above statement is true.

Your question is thought-provoking!

Time is constantly changing & thats the reason we have "Past, Present & Future"......time that has passed is the past, time we are in at the moment is present & time which is gonna come will be the future.....If time wouldn't have changed constantly, then we'd have been living only in present not knowing about our past & uncertain about our future.

the past is gone and nothing can be done
the present is hard to change because it is based on the past
the future can be altered by what we do now
Time is circular and anything that is old will be new again.
