Depends on what was mailing (letter or package), and how it was sent (first class, parcel post, priority mail) and how good the post office in town is functioning (varies). I had a whole series of priority mail packages from different parts of the country sent to Evanston earlier this year that routinely took a week or more, sometimes as long as two. It should have taken only two to three days for those. Letters are less likely to get delayed than packages.

In theory first class shouldn't take more than a few business days between any major cities in this country. In practice, though, if you've been waiting longer than a week, you're not unreasonable if you're not happy. BTW, the rate calculator above gives you theoretical times each class of service should take, though YMMV.

Chicago has the worst mail service in the country so it could make it to Chicago in a matter of days and once in Chicago take weeks to get deliveered.
