I'm not sure how I feel about the theories that say 2012 will be the end of the world. What do you think?

My guess is this, the Mayan calendar, when broken down mathematically has various rises and falls in the numerical sequence. These highs and lows coincide with events completely unrelated and related to the Mayans. It rises during the conquests of Alexander drops at the fall of Rome and the dark Ages (note the far east went through a Dark Age at exactly the same time) Rises again when Columbus discovers the new world and takes a drastic drop on the day Cortes arrives on their shores. It drops again during WWII and the Cold War, rises at the fall of the Soviet Union and falls again after 2000. This fall continues until DEC 21st, 2012.

My guess is the fall of the United States, I know that seems crazy but the obvious ramifications of the disruption of America would be catastrophic to the world. Take a look at the Roman Empire in the final years of their existence (the Western half) and the US is repeating the very same mistake.

With the Damage the Bush Administration has done and the damage that could be wrought by the cast of characters now running to take his place and the division between the people that politicians have used to their benefit but the nation's detriment already have the nation on edge. Couple that with the mass of illegals, a defecit that can not be paid, a war we refuse or perhaps cannot win, and a trade deficit that hasn't been seen since well... The Fall of Rome, it would take only one serious catastrophe to break this nation in half. An event like another terrorist attack would not have the same effect as September 11th, DC did way to good of a job screwing that up. The finger pointing would turn into fighting and the fighting into civil war. The moment the nation was divided into Red States Blue states, as Rome was divided into East and West the division of the people was clear and the battle lines drawn.

Oh yea and that is the day that the Sun reaches its maximum, Saturn and Jupiter line up with Earth, and the solar system passes through the galactic equator.

The Calender does go on though. And the prophecy calls for a new world order for lack of a better description. Topple the status quo of today's world and sure there will be chaos afterward but if the people take control and fix the problems of the past once the dust settles, life will be better then ever on earth.

No. The Dec 2012 date is only whilst between the Mayan calanders ends. I advise, why do people think of they Mayans can are waiting for the tip of the international whilst they could no longer even are waiting for the tip of their own civilization? asserting that the international is going to end because of it is like finding an afternoon planner from 1995 that lists all the months until eventually 2020 and asserting that because of the fact the planner does not have any years after 2020 that the international is going to end. Plus, in case you incredibly choose for to confirm how truthful somebody is in believing the international will end Dec 21, 2012, tell them "I inform you what, i'm going to offer you $2000 precise now in case you sign a freelance giving me 10% of what you earn from Dec 22, 2012 until eventually you die"....you will locate 0 takers.

That's a load of BS, that prophecy (that is not even a prophecy, but an event occuring in the maya calendar, that has nothing to do with world ending nor apocalypses, has been taken out of context badly by sensationalists who predate on uncautious unanalizing common people that like Chicken Little think the sky will fall. In what way can it be verifiable or rationally discussed something like this? this is not philosophy, it;s not even sophistry, is simple plain goold-old superstition. But since we are in this doomsday mood, do you want to hear about the real threat?

OK If first Bush doesn't get the job done, Apophis will.
An asteroid is bound to earth and it will pass closer to earth than our geostationary communication satellites, the whole world will see it pass by on April 13th 2029 going: "Fuuu! that was close!", but the gravity of earth will alter its trajectory causing Apophis to return 7 years later as close or even closer than the first time. Computer models predict it will impact eartj in a thin belt starting in the northern pacific, passing trhrough california, all northern mexico and part of the caribbean, it can hit anywhere along that belt. So brace yourselves and get a plane ticket to Asia or somehwre far from there if you are anywhere near. this meteorite doesn't have the capacity to exterminate us or provoque massive exitinctions but it can devastate an area the size of texas at once!

That is a real threat, just check out the NASA website.

Only an idiot would believe it will happen based upon ancient writings. There is no proof whatsoever that it will all end on that day. Unless a comet strikes the earth on that day, we will all still be here.

Theories are just that: theories. My theory is that people who live their lives under the shadow of assumptive proclimations (such as predictions made 100's or 1000's of years ago), are fools.

I disagree with it entirely. i beleive that the end of the world in most peoples veiws will simply be a new begining of an eternity. i refer to the second comming of Christ and the deadly chaos of the time of the occurance. Which is said in the King James version of the Bible that nobody will know when the savior will come again. so thus even the myan callender is not sufficient to know. maybe its own end but not the end of the world.

You've picked 3 theories among hundreds of others since the time of Nero when he was throwing Christians to the Lions.

Predicting the apacolypse has been going on since Nero was throwing Christians to the lions, every turn of the Century, every end of the millenia, the 7th Day Adventists had their day in 1912, the Jim Jones cult and wacko in Waco both had their days, every passing of Haley's comet, eclipse of the sun and other end-of earth prophesies that i'm sure i missed.

One thing you can be sure of, the arsenals of the US and Russia can obliterate a million Hiroshimas.....anyway, sleep tight.

Back in 1714 the end of the world was coming 1912. all the evidence to prove it and back it up were collected and analyized. So you know only end of things that were popular then will not be popular no more to the majority.

I could choose any date off the top of my head and say that is when the world will end. I would most likely be wrong, and so would anyone else's guess. I believe the world will outlive human beings anyway, so no one will be around when it happens.

Hm. If I want to get married in my life, I'll need to hurry up. I've only got 4.2 years left! ¬_¬ Actually, I'm pretty sure the world isn't gonna end yet. No Tribulation, no Jesus coming back, etc.

I like your hat. It's lovely.
