The san patricios werent traitors, they left the american military due to abusive treatment based on race and religion, and because of an empathy to the mexican peoples that were also catholic and of a similar life style to that of an irish farmer, most felt they had been tricked into volunteering for an army that didnt want them anyway, and they fought with valour and distinction for their adopted country..By the way, The alamo was during the war of texas independence not the mexican american war, battles like ,buena verde and chupultapec were mexican american war.

I've never heard of them but they do sound absolutely fascinating:

I think I may research further the whole Mexican- American War which I only know from the film the Alamo!

Later edit: Thanks for the later answerer pointing out that the Alamo wasn't part of the Mexian - American war - this just shows how ignorant I am on this topic!

I'm not Irish by the way despite the name but my parents were.

American traitors who at least had the decency to give one last cheer as the American flag was raised over Churubusco, just before they were hung for desertion and taking up arms against their countrymen....

the last time any group of Americans chose their religion ( Catholic ) over their nationality ( Irish -American) in a war.

The cannons they used to kill fellow Americans stand as a prize of war at West Point today....
