This forum is suppose to be about questions and answers, i.e the sharing of thoughts amongst humans, yet everyone is so busy being hostile all the time that they attack without any regard for what was really asked---an example can be seen at my last question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AobiYr3x5b5grHeLwPKbMiEYxgt.;_ylv=3?qid=20071113084808AApU9Ln
I asked for people's thoughts on an article and instead of answering they start jumping to conclusions about my opinion which I never gave! If you can't answer a question, why not stay off?

Guns_fan: Don't you see the irony of saying a woman should avoid the Gender and WOMEN'S studies area?

False: Look around...at least it wasn't a question about what color hair men prefer or how to get girls to date a man, ect....serious question? Those come once in a blue moon (no offense to the hair color question) my point is my question had as much seriousness as the next and deserved respect not attacks.

Oh my gosh! This same thing just happened to me. I posted a question in the HEALTH forum of all places about the recent report that reflected the USA among the lowest for developed nations for infant mortality.
I mean the venom.. one guy actually went to the effort to email me! LOL..
I don't know.. I do believe one gentlemen already noted that the facelessness of the internet just encourages those who are nasty to have an open shot at someone. I think he's right.
It just lowers inhibitions in general, being anonymous.
Guns - don't forget the politics and apparently the Health forums .. lol... .

Well...obvoiusly the answers which you found so objectionable WERE representative of other people's thoughts and opinions. Now you know that there is a natural tendency for people in a faceless forum environment to be critical or even hostile. If you are not satisfied with the answers that you get here, there are plenty of other web based forum groups that you can try. Best of luck to you.

hala L, it wasn't a very important (or serious) topic and maybe people assumed that you saw some worth in it (seeing as you posted the question). I think the point is that there are more important things to talk about. Yes, I know that you didn't state your position on the article.

That happens to me all the time. Some of us treat the forum like a college class discussion, some of us treat it like a playground. The problem of course, is when the two mix.

Welcome to the Internet.
Here you've got all the a**holes to the jocks and nerds, feminists, racists, romantistcs, etc all in one place.
In real life you wouldn't walk up to people that look hostile and talk to them... They would respond with hostility...
When you submit your post on the internet, everybody can see your question. Hostile people and nice people. It just depends who finds your topic at a particular time.

I have said it many times that GWS is not for faint hearted, its like the Wild West... So if you are not comfotable with the attitudes in GWS, there are more "relaxed" sections such as fishing, travel, golf, cooking... oh so many to choose from.
