My bf's bday tomorrow and I want to buy him a really nice cologne. Willing to spend $50 or less on it.

I have two that I wear that really gets alot of compliments
Burberry Brit - it's crisp, refreshing, not too sweet.. it's a great fragrance
Polo Safari - more musky and spicy, but not overly so. More of an evening/going out cologne.
Remember that people have different body oil, which reacts to the cologne differently on different people. But, for me, those 2 colognes smell really good on me, and those are what I get complimented on.. I'm sure someone will say Aqua Di Gio, which is a good cologne, but EVERYONE wears that.. I chose mine because not only do they smell good, they are pretty unique..

Why don't you get him the new Diesel cologne? It's got a "spicy" smell to it, and it just came out so not many people will have it.
You can customize it for him too if you buy it from the Diesel website - they have this amazing flash tool where you can pick the fabric, color, ink, and from all these embossings for the holding pouch. It's limited to like 20,000 people, and costs about $60, which is a bit more than you wanted to spend, but still pretty affordable. That way it will really be a unique gift!
Other good choices would be the new Banana Republic Scent or maybe Calvin Klein - both are about $45.
If you don't like those options there are some other new releases you could look at on some of the links below - in either case I'd stay away from the Derek Jeter cologne, it looks cheap to me.
