Gender depends on which type of sperm fertilized the egg. Intercourse during the first part of ovulation has a higher chance of conception of a girl, as during this time the vaginal mucus is more hospitable to the X sperm. During the later half of ovulation, the vaginal mucus is more hospitable to Y sperm, resulting in a boy. Unless you have in vitro in which sperm are separated, there is no effective method to choose gender that is 100%.

no! the male determines the sex not by wishful thinking but by whatever sperm fertilizes the egg. if it is a XX then it will be a girl, but if it is a XY well it's a boy. The only way to medical so it is for someone to separate the two diff types of sperm and then allow the chosen ones to fertilizes the egg

IVF with PGD is the name of the procedure. It stands for In Vitro Fertilization with Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis. In this procedure, you take fertility drugs for ~6 weeks to induce you to superovulate (produce many eggs). These eggs are harvested using a thin needle, and mixed with your partner's sperm. When the eggs that fertilize reach the 6-8 cell stage, a single cell is removed, and chromosomal analyses are performed to determine the sex, or, more typically, the presence of any genetic diseases.

It costs about $3000 US on top of whatever is being paid for the IVF ($7000-20000). It's a somewhat specialized procedure and not all clinics are willing to do it in order to select for sex.

There are some specialized clinics that can, but you have no choice. Gender is determined by the sperm.
