I would put Rob Ray at best as the third in Buffalo goon history.
1) Larry Playfair - Grant Mulvey and Ted Bulley were never the same after fighting with him

2) Jerry Korab - this guy was just plain mean

At an old-timers game in September, Playfair cleaned Ray's clock pretty good.....not bad for a guy who's a good 10 yrs older.

Rob Ray deserves more respect as a great fighter then many people are willing to give him. He is the reason that the fight strap was added to the jersey! He's definitely the best fighter that the Sabres have ever had (Peter's is a weak substitute), but I'm not going to commit to him being the best in the NHL.

I met him about three years ago, when he moved back to Buffalo. He said he doesn't have any intentions of playing again now that he has a wife and child. Can't blame him there.

Not really to any of the above. He was mowing his lawn the other day when I walked by his house and he looked very content. The Sabres had Larry Playfair a number of years ago and he was a real fighter. Somebody said of him that he wrecked careers. Probert, former Redwing, was tougher than Ray. Who would want to tangle with Boogart of Wild??? Rob Ray has a book coming out next month...

Kasparaitus laid Ray out in a couple of games on Long Island, one of those games, Ray had to be helped off by a teammate.

Defiantly not the best fighter that the league has ever had, probably one of the best in Buff's history though.

Nice link Andrew V. - never seen the commercial in Canada but I like it!

Amen. His sister in law goes to school with me, I love the stories she comes in with. How about during the Florida game, right ni the middle of speaking, he told the Florida play by play announcer his hairline was receding, but his waist line wasn't LOL

Best fighter in Buffalo history, maybe.
Best fighter ever, No.
To old to come back.

However, did star in the best hockey commercial ESPN ever made.
