Well when I worked as a server (over 10 yrs ago) I found young blacks (under 35) to be the worst customers, worst tippers. The guys try hitting on you, call you obsene names when you don't give them your phone number, the women younger one are rude to you when you are being nice I had many of them say to me "I don't know why you bein' so nice, you ain't gettin' no tip". When they would come in the restaurant we (the servers) would take them on a rotating basis because we knew mostly like we would not get a tip ( and that is how we made our money). This was when I was in h.s. now older black over 35 were just like everyone else. I also found Hispanic men to be the same as young blacks in the tipping dept. I hate to say it because I'm black and of hispanic descent.

stereotypes arise for a reason. Its funny how often you can see the patterns though, haha. I think the two that hold the most water though are the "foreigners in America dont know how to tip" and the age old "blacks dont tip at all". Those are the two I see again and again and again. I have heard a lot of my friends complain about Mexicans never tipping but I never had the problem (complete opposite in fact).

Canadians?
I went to Mexico one time for a week and the resort seemed to have a lot of Canadians visiting. You can pick them out of course because they wear the Canadian flag on everything from ball caps to tube socks and their beach towels. They never tipped. The bartenders at the resort were great, friendly and worked their butts off, but I never saw one of them tip even a dollar. That's probably my only observation of Canadian gratuity habits though.

Business men. Anytime you see rich guys coming in wearing suits--expect something like 8% tip.
The other bad tippers were large groups after Sunday services. I guess they just gave their money to church or perhaps its b/c its a large family--but you run ragged with refills and cleaning up after the little kids--and they merely round up to the next dollar.

i tip based on service quality. i tend to over tip just because i'm never really sure just as to how much is a good tip, they give you percentages but sometimes that doesn't help. if i get a rude server then i'm not likely to tip as well, they will still get the tip but not a crazy tip. sometimes i'll tip more if i see the person is struggling with many patrons and working their butts off.

I don't think that any one group would be seen as bad tippers!
I am African American and I tip well for good service only. I will not tip a person 15.00 on a 50.00 bill if they weren't a good server.

Race is hard to go by. It would have to be all old people in general. My man is black and he OVER tips all the time. So all those people that think that blacks don't tip well, they might be surprised if we sat at their table and walked out with a fat tip.

After traveling around the UK I found that tipping is not a custom. Before you judge someone you need to know there customs. And then you may find it easier to understand.
