I have a 101 fever and I'm supposed to audition for My fair lady in a couple hours. Any advice? Aside from sleep and get vitamins?

Do you know the reason for your fever? Influenza, pnuemonia? Do you know if what you have is viral or bacterial? I think you should be at the doctor's office today to get treatment if it's bacterial. If it's viral there's nothing you can do but let it run it's course.

Hydrate, rest, etc. but if you are ill when audition time arrives (still have a fever)... in my opinion, skip it. It's very rude to go and risk infecting everyone else because you don't want to miss your shot on this one show. You could get many actors, not to mention the director, assistant director, producer, etc. all sick right when they're starting rehearsals which could set the whole production back! If you are done being sick and go to the audition, make sure you are very cautious with spreading germs just in case (no hugs, wash your hands often). You could also beg for mercy. Call the theatre and ask if they will allow you to participate in call backs because you can't make it to the initial auditions. It's a real long shot, but if they know you and can count on you as a performer then you may have a shot.

good luck,
Marianne

I assume you have everything ready. I'm also assuming you don't want to miss the audition.

A fever reducer such as Motrin along with the sleep/vitamins you mentioned and perhaps some peppermint tea, or other drink to perk you up.

Make certain, when you hit the stage, to briefly and matter-of-factly announce that you wanted to notify them that you are ill but will be going ahead with the audition nonetheless. Then do your best!

And get right back into bed when you get home, after calling your doctor to make certain home care is best in this situation. It is my understanding that a fever means infection and antibiotics may be in order. If you get the part, you want to be well enough to take it!

When auditioning, push the illness out of your mind... don't even think about it... and give the best performance you can as if you were not sick. Once it's over you can go crawl into a corner and cough all you like.
