when it is not in power it does go to standby mode

Check the power settings. There is usually a setting for battery operation and another for when it's plugged in. Usually you would want you system to go to Sleep or Standby pretty quick when running on battery, but when plugged in, it really doesn't matter if the machine stays at full power.

In your control panel, there are power options. Open that up, then find the settings for plug in and battery. Change them their and you it will do as you wish. Or on the tool bar, right click the battery icon and open power settings.
