what we percieve as reality as well as what we call fantasy into the building. What would your house look like?
I had this weird dream about this last night.

I could probably tell some of you what my idea of the perfect house would be, but I would have to do it in an email because there isn't enough room here.

I've been mulling this one over in my mind for a couple of hours now, and I'm still not sure. I'm planning to build a house soon, so I suppose my answer should be... that house. But you've given me a license to fantasize here, so I'm still trying to think of something "way out." I really think I'd build my modest sized house and be happy.

I would have a ranch and my house would be a big farm house with a wrap around porch. It would be 2 stories with an elevator and I'd have it decorated in styles from the older days. I'd also have a very nice bunk house for all the folks who worked on the ranch. We'd have a big dining room where everyone would eat as a family. The windows would have flower boxes and I'd have bird feeders hanging on the porch. There would be a pool and pool house and an exercise/dance room that has a real jukebox. I'd also have an area for all the little animals who wanted to stay with us.

It would be a cross between a farm/ranch house with wrap around porch and a Mediterranean villa...incorporating aspects of both designs inside and out.

GREAT big weeping willows in the front...with a 'natural' landscape of wildflowers and rocks and bubbling brooks.

A large deck in the rear overlooking a pool and hottub.

Rooms enough for any one in my immediate family to come live with me, should they wish, but designed in such a way that private entrances were made available and each could have their space without interference.

TWO kitchens...one modern/stainless steel/granite

The other, country with fireplace

My bedroom would have the exterior wall designed to be 'removable' i.e., could slide away into pockets and would look out onto my private terrace with gorgeous vegetation and an outdoor lighted fountain.

Ok , that was fun!

You wouldn't even SEE my house! It would appear as just another hill in the rolling area of my lawn....and it would be super cool if the front door looked out from the embankment over a large stream. I'd even like to incorporate a huge tree as an "observatory perch".

But really...they make these houses in other countries all the time, and they are very efficient to keep warm in winter and cool in summer. The walls would all be arched, and the rooms all round edged.

Also, you could make multiple levels underground as well that you could bring sunlight to using those mirror tubes they make for brightening dark rooms.

I quite like the idea of this type of home...maybe if I ever win a lottery, I will have just such a home built for myself! (And use the acreage for rescue animals--there is nothing stopping their "homes" from being underground as well !)

I only remember nightmares or really bizarre dreams. Any house from my dreams would be more like a carnival fun house than something you could live in. I'll pass on this one.

Well, maybe a geothermal ranch with a cathedral ceiling or two for visual interest. Add the bathing pools and warm sands of Pern, a few small service droids from Star Wars, and put it all inside goldwing's tropical garden.

A nice sized ranch with a mini-ranch nearby for visitors who want their privacy. A large game room. A pool. A hot tub. One of those really special bathrooms with lots of light and a rain shower; also a spa tub. A gourmet kitchen. The master bedroom would have a king size bed with lots of room for an entertainment center and a fireplace and lounge chairs. Built-in shelving all over the house. A fireplace in the living room. An entertainment/movie screening room. (Champagne taste, beer budget, what can I say.)

First of all my house would be by a large creek or river, so I could hear the water. It would be a one story, with a wrap around porch. A heated pool inside and in the bathroom it would not have a shower curtain or sliding glass doors in the shower area, but a Block Glass curved partition. My bedroom window would be very large and open to a wooded area, and have a large deck area outside it. The kitchen would have a lazy susan for cans and a pantry area. with a stand alone island space. 2 bedrooms with a den with lots of shelves for my books. Lots of skylights on the roof to let the light in. and very bright and open areas. Tall ceilings and lots of windows.

Depends where it is, doesn't it? If I had a piece in the mountains beside a lake, I'd be building a cabin for the weekend. If it's in a high density residential area I'd be looking to build condos. If it is downtown in the business district it might be a storefront, a small multi-story mixed use, or a skyscraper, depending on the situation.

My dream house would be earth friendly.
It would also be shape oddly, triangle maybe.
Made of chocolate.
Pool inside, jacuzzi in every room.
A animal area for a no kill shelter. Would love to have all the unwanted little guys running around. The unadoptable of the unwanted so to speak.
When shall we move?

EDIT: O.K. I think I like Phil's house, I'M going there. Anyone else? Get the guest room ready, here I come.

I am not a gradiose person..it would be big enough to house me and mine, my office, with rooms being not above aveage size...I suppose I am far too practical, for someone, somewhere, somehow, sometime has to clean the damned thing...and I hate cleaning...so in all, it would be what I already have...AND I do not want more ground to keep up than I already have! So, in effect, I suppose I already have my "dream home." Perhaps I am lucky, but I will tell you luck had nothing to do with it.. I bought a house, gutted it and made it exactly to my liking...same with the yard, completely fenced with 6 foot wood, stained and finished like wood, planted very tropical inside...I live in Hawaii ( but the house is in Southern California...when I come in through the gate, I am in another world, very private, very quiet..a micro world of peace. Love to all, Phil
