Each state has it's own constitution so you would need to read that to see what the founding fathers wrote.

At the federal level this is specified (although not very clearly) in Article III http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.articleiii.html

Yes, they can be impeached and it does not necessarily have to involve any criminal conduct. The five justices that wrote the Citizens United ruling can be impeached for that action alone for essentially gross professional misconduct or something along those lines. All it takes is a majority vote in the house and senate. If congress is mobilized sufficiently to action, it can impeach a Supreme Court justice relatively easily.

As there are no term limits built into the constitution, the terms are for life.

Presidents have ALWAYS appointed Justices who have a close political view as their own. You couldn't expect it to be any other way.

I take it you don't like President bush nominations? Well, I'm not crazy about Ginsburg either. All things change.

why do you say that?..the intent of the lifetime job was to put them above politics...what you are mad about is that the majority is conservative and your side cant legislate from the bench against the will of the majority of Americans...Libs cant get their crazy programs and laws passed by a congress that isnt sucidial so the libs try to get enough Ginsbergs appointed so they can get those same programs passed anyway...tough luck

1 - Yup.

2 - It's called the Constitution.

3 - It's what they do - that's why we call 'em politicians.
