I was changing it was a regular 60 or 100 watt bulb but a few months ago I decided to use a halogen bulb and that one wore out so quickly too. Why do I have to change this bulb so frequently?

If the light fixture needs two bulbs, the maximum wattage of both bulbs must not exceed 120 watts. You may be regularly putting in a total of 160 to 200. That makes it a fire hazard but the safety features of your bulbs will short one bulb rather than become a fiery fixture.

Regular 60 or 100 watts are total energy wasters and belong in the past. Try the more current (circa 2000 onward) white flourescent bulbs that are 100 lumen but only uses 10 to 15 watts. You will get the bright light you want and ony use up less than 60 watts.

Heat buildup. Most fixtures are rated for 60 amp bulbs. 100 watt bulbs and halogen bulbs create to much heat for the fixture.

Could be a bad electrical connection. Could also be caused by vibration. Try using a Heavy Duty bulb. These are made for things like lead lights that get banged around a lot.

Sienna has the correct answer..If you read on ALL halogen bulbs, it says to use gloves to install..do not touch..the oils in your fingers make the heat from the direct all to one place, and will make them burn out immediately...seems a "real electrician" above me should know this lol..ive seen alot of his faulty answers...

if you are touching the bulb with your fingers, it will leave a oily residue..even tho it doesnt appear oily..use a tissue to put the light bulbs in.
