It's not suppose to. A diode is suppose to keep the current going only in one direction, from the alternator to the battery.

No, the battery does not send any charge to the alternator. A diode ensures charge only flows from the alternator to the battery.

No, if your amp hand is showing on the negative side or your charge light is on, it's more than likely your alternator..........
