I like it....In Jamaica I think it means "Alright" or "Good". As in "everything is irie, mon".
My husband and I got married in Jamiaca and that word triggers great memories.
Nice choice.

I think it would make a really cute nickname.

How about:

Irene
Iris
Ireland
Irina

For a given name? I just can't picture a Dr. Irie Smith. I can see a Dr. Irene Smith. Irie isn't the worst nicknamey given name, though, it's not Honey Necklace or something!

I think most people, seeing the name on paper, might be inclined to pronounce it Ir-ee, so she might have to do some potential correcting. But, it's feminine, unique, and paired with a longer middle name, would be a nice choice.

I actually love it. When we were pregnant with my son they told me he was a girl :) The name we had picked out was Ireland Rose. We were going to call her Irie Rose :) Gorgeous. Pregnant right now and if its a girl her name will be Rory Elizabeth. (An Ireland was just born a few months ago at our local hospital ;') Congrats & best wishes.

I do not like it...it sounds like a noise an instrument might make and not a real name.

Try Lorie, Irene, Kaylie, or Margorie if you like that long e sound at the end of a name.

It's okay...Maybe try: Irene, Irvette, Irvina or Iris.
In my opinion, Irie is only nice as a nickname!

Kinda cool if youre jamaican, or into reggae. it actually is growing on me, cuz not a whole lot of people are going to know its just jamaican slang.

People will have a hard time pronouncing it. Your child will always have to correct people.

I like it!

But as a nickname not for her real name. When she gets older that might not work out very well. Maybe as a nickname for Irene or something like that. But I do like it a lot!
