i have plenty of asian friends and whenever one of them asks a question in class or asks for help with homework assignments someone always asks "aren't asian people supposed to be smart?"

I guess it's because generally a lot of the Asian parents that came to America.. did so in order to educate their kids so they end up getting into good colleges...
and it could also be the fact that a lot of the newest technologies you see today is either made in Japan or Korea

Depends on which asians you are speaking about. Chinese = have it the hardest. There are too many of them already. Japanese = have it pretty nice. Because people feel sorry for them because of WWII Vietnamese = also have it nice. People feel bad because of the Vietnam war and make concessions to Southern Vietnamese especially I don't know the statistics and numbers by heart, but they can probably be googled. It is not the asian minority that gets it easy, but the minority OF the asian minority. Regardless, I believe that race should not matter when it comes to college. People need to base it on merit, not color of skin. But to be fair, considering it from the college's Point of View...They want to create a more diverse college environment. I suppose that's why they bar certain races after a period of time EDIT: Actually, if your last name is Jewish you can't cover it up. There are some people who can identify a Jew just by their last name. Usually they'll have "sch" like in Schulman Other examples include Katz or things that end in -stein, usually. Jews get sympathy anyways, for the fact that their ancestors were persecuted in the Holocaust. And many (not all, but many!) Jewish people are extraordinarily smart as well and well-qualified for top schools. What this person's question is addressing is the fact that kids who do NOT deserve to go into certain schools are allowed to simply because of their race while those who clearly do work hard and make an effort will be barred.

Very few people are "intelligent." That's what you call a genius. They're just very hardworking. They have a good work ethic. I think a lot of them are just booksmart, which isn't a bad thing. I just noticed that if I try to talk about things outside of school, like politics, they're clueless.
I always laugh when other kids say, "why are you so smart?" Ummmm because I actually did the homework and studied??

Hello,
I know IQ's are certainly not the be all and end all for measuring one's intellectual capabilities but if yoy check the stats, Chinese, Japanese and Koreans score slightly higher than North Americans or Europeans.
That said I have seen many highly intelligent Asians and others not so swift. Family backgrounds and economic status seems to play a big part as well.

its true heres the deal lets say my asian friend is getting an A in class and i myself im considered a genius i may have the intellectual capacity to get an A in the class but i never study lets say my asian friend studies 3 hours a day for math and i start studying only 1 hour a day in math and excell better then her thus im the more intelligent person i have the aptitue yet she studies way harder then me its complex

Asians are assumed to be intelligent because their families push education so therefore they do better on tests that others. If American families pushed education like Asian countries did we would be neck and neck with them. Its just their standards and priorities are a bit different than ours.

They have higher IQ's, Asian countries produce more doctors and scientists than any other region and, Japan had emigration standards that only allowed their best and brightest to leave the country.
