when using the laptop it gets moved sometimes when playing games. then it will stick (lockup). Sometimes when it has not been moved itsticks. is it time to add more memory or would it be more cost effective just to invest in another laptop?

It might be a heat problem, which could be made worse when you move it. If there is a lose heat distributor (a conductive piece that moves heat away from the processors and to the fan), it could get critically hot just by a slight jostle.

I am thinking it is heat, because gaming uses the processor and video card processor a LOT, meaning a lot more heat is created then. You might also get it if you are running a couple programs, watching a movie on your computer or running Antivirus software.

It could also be lose memory or another component that has built up corrosion on connectors. If you can, try reseating (remove and replacing) the memory. Also, if you feel up to it (and with the other option being buying a new laptop, I don't know what there is to lose), try taking it apart and reseating the heat sink and fan and other components. Here is a guide that doesn't have your c610, but does have a few Dells. In my experience, they are the easiest to take apart.

I think heat is a good first option, then components. It could be the hard drive or anything else. Good luck and update us.

Hi. That was a good machine in its time but, honestly, your money would be best spent on a newer, faster, machine. Your specs http://pcworld.about.com/news/Feb122002id83366.htm
