I asked a question about a survey that was just released and said that I wasn't really surprised by the results because 17% of Americans can't find the US on a map. I received an answer that stated "I don't have to find it on a map. I'm already here." Do the majority of people out there really think this way or is this person just ignorant and stupid beyond my wildest dreams?

That is asinine... I'm not a map whiz or anything but I think I could label the basics...

Well.... I agree that truthfully.... "I don't have to find it on a map since I'm already here" but I still think it's good to know where it is on a map and also where other things are on a map. I'm all for knowledge. Why would I want to be ignorant and stupid? ??? An even bigger to ask would be: Do they know where ALL of the US is? [territories, etc.] Or do they know all where the US occupied? o.o Just think about the response you'd get!

That person was ignorant and stupid beyond any of our wildest dreams! That was crazy, BUT I do have a hard time believing that statistic about Americans not finding the U.S. on a map.

I don't. Just because you are here on the US doesn't mean you can navigate yourself around every single state in the US without glancing at the map for a second. That person was just ignorant and stupid.

uhm.....Ignorant and stupid!
My question is how could you live somewhere and not know where your located on a map? That does not make any sense at all to me.

Some people just don't care. Even students in school ask why they have to take Geograpy when it's required...
