I believe the biggest mistake they made was letting Murat serve as an unoffical interperter. I think he is hiding something that has to do with Maddie's disappearance.

Normally with a McCann question I would give a long answer, but then I'm not arguing with an 'anti-McCann'. It is more enjoyable with a like minded asker.
I have to say that failing to seal off the apartment area probably was the biggest mistake by the PJ's. The evidence would not have been contaminated or lost and at least they might have got somewhere.
Their next biggest mistake was concentrating on the McCanns as suspects. Surely if they are indeed innocent then it is a complete distraction.

IF, and I am not sure they did ask Murat to translate, they made a big mistake to ask a suspect to do this as he could have manumitted his answers to his own benefit. Mistakes have been made from day one but I feel sure that time alone will solve this difficult case.

Hi I hate to criticise the Portuguese police, but the biggest mistake they made was not sealing off the whole apartment when they where first called, I know the McCanns had already allowed far, far to many people through it, but that is the one big thing that they done wrong, the second was not to take the hire car to bits, and then allowed it back to them.. and the third was to let the McCanns out of Portugal and back to the UK...

Well they did a lot of things wrong. Allowing a lay person off the street to translate for them for a start (if true) is incredibly wrong and very naive.

Remember to this point the only people really pointing the finger at Murat are some of Gerrys friends and the British media ....... hardly reliable sources.

Agree with izo,and would say that also they should not have allowed the refuse company to take away the rubbish,everything should have been checked.(Oh and of course the drunk)
