I do not plan on voting republican this election, but I do like Ron Paul. I hear many saying he is crazy.
Is this based on anything substantial or do people just not like him because he's not a frontrunner.
I genuinely would like to know if there is a good reason people call him crazy.
THANKS.

Thank you as well.
(i don't necessarily agree that those ideas are "crazy" i do appreciate the fact that you listed specific reasons people think he's nuts, which was the point of the question)

People resort to calling people names and trying to discredit them when they fear their ideas or the fact that too many of the poor to middle class begin to listen to their "crazy ideas." It's funny that a lot of this mans and Dennis Kusinich's ideas are labeled "crazy" and they happen to be the ones who are resonating with the more regular everyday people . I don't plan to vote Republican either but this is the first republican person since I've been voting that I would even consider voting for one. If Ron Paul is so crazy and has no chance at winning then why is it that The Republican Party has been trying to block him from debating with them.
The bottom line is that he is not in anyones pocket and the ones who are in pockets don't want to talk about some of the issues that this man is bringing up. It threatens all of them for someone who hasn't been bought to be talking about issues that might appeal to or rile up the peasant class.
Hmm a candidate that is popular with the people but has no chance. How very typical.

People ALWAYS label someone as crazy when their ideals are non-conformist. The sheeple enjoy being herded and any "black sheep" who stands out from the crowd worries them. They are just too comfortable with being told what to think by the mainstream media. The sheeple have a false sense of security and have been mentally conditioned to reject anything new or different that goes against what the media advocates. For example, Ron Paul wants to eliminate the IRS because income tax is illegal and unconstitutional. There really are not any laws on the books that we must pay this type of tax. Well, that goes against everything that the sheeple have grown up to believe, so in their eyes it is insane and unrealistic. Ron Paul is against the endless war in Iraq and wants to bring our troops home rather than escalating this debacle by starting a war with Iran. And because the sheeple have been taught by the media that war is a necessary evil to fight terrorists, this ideal is also seen as outrageous. These are just a couple of examples. The point is, Ron Paul's ideals are very positive and they make a lot of sense. Just because someone's ideas are different from the norm, it does not make them crazy.

I think the biggest reason so many think he is crazy is because they are not educated on his ideals. Whether you agree or disagree, his ideals are not crazy unless you do not understand them.
Austrian economics is a very logical based economic theory. Again, even if you do not agree, if you are educated on Austrian economic thought, you can at least understand why someone would justifiably make a case for many of its principals.
A perfect example is his desire to get rid of the Department of Education. I have seen people jump to the conclusion that he is proposing to not have any public schools nationwide, and that is a completely uneducated response.
He is against an interventionalist foreign policy. That is 100% opposite what we currently have. His belief is that our history of intervening, hypocritically supporting nations that we later call our enemies, and having troops in other nations with the appearance of influencing policies of other nations has been the cause for so much of the dangers we currently face. To the uneducated, this seems like he is suggesting bringing home the military and not offering any defense, but that is not the case at all.
Anyhow, without trying to get too deep into the issues, the point is that what he is suggesting is NOT what has been mainstream for a long period of time and most Americans (more specifically most people on yahoo answers) have only a skin deep understanding of the issues at hand...so when a candidate comes along proposing massive change it appears crazy.
While I do not believe he will win, if he causes at least a good portion of Americans to look further than skin deep into the issues he will have achieved success. Calling him crazy without being able to actually define what he believes is perhaps the very definition of ignorant, for how can anyone pass judgment without defining his views?
One only needs to read 4 or 5 pages into his book "A Foreign Policy of Freedom" to get a very good check on reality in terms of foreign policy. Again, whether you ultimately agree or disagree, its worth the 10-15 minutes to at least be educated.

A couple we know kept saying how Ron paul is a nut job. Finally one of our neighbors confronted them and asked why. It turned out that they didn't even know what the Federal Reserve is!!!! People who call Ron paul kooky or a nutjob or crazy just don't get him. He's been a VERY successful Congressman and physician and a decorated Air force pilot.
The politicians who discredit him do it because they're afraid of how popular he's become.
That's why you hear those labels. But he's very popular among the intellectuals as well as the military. He gets more money from active and retired military than any other candidate. His record of honesty speaks for itself. The man has never filed a medicaire or medicaid claim so as not to burden the tax payer and votes against Congress perks EACH time a resolution is being passed for more benefits for Congress. His record speaks for itself.

Honestly, It's because He gets so excited when he talks and has very radical opinions about the war on terror unlike most Conservatives.
He's obviously a smart man to be where he's at. Then again, a lot of people think Bush is smart yet crazy too.
At the end of the day, Ron Paul will not be the Republican candidate but may run as an independent which would make things very scary on both sides of the aisle.

Look man, I'm Republican, I support Ron Paul, and there's about a 50% chance I'll vote for him at this point, but the man is crazy. His ideas are against the grain of what the other candidates are proposing. He has not been positioning himself for a presidential run, he just sorta appeared out of nowhere. I didn't even know he was working in government, and for so long, until he ran.
I think his ideas to abolish the fed are pretty extreme. I think he is pandering to the audience that believes the fed is an evil organization designed to screw us over (those people do not understand the complexities of what they do). He also just opposes the war on the grounds it is illegal. Well, that neglects the reality that it is happening and we are playing a role in how it turns out. We are responsible for Iraq and its people, and to just embrace a policy of leaving is kinda foolish. Again, I think this is just pandering to a certain crowd for support, but oh well.
Where I like Ron Paul is his classic conservatism. Small government, increased state controls, no federal Roe v Wade legislation; let each state decide on abortion. Fiscal conservatism, these are ideas we need to restore to America.

No, i do no longer call him loopy. i think of that a number of his perspectives are, by way of fact he does not think of or do any learn. One he says that he might do away with earnings Tax even nonetheless the form says that earnings tax is okay. He says that he might end all foreign places help and all treaties, which might make us Isolationists which isn't the place we would desire to be in recent times, no longer to show at every time. that's what George Washington did, and it ended with a war. that's what different presidents did and you already know what it added approximately? war. that may no longer what we choose. Having to do with Medicare, Medicaid, Social protection, and Obamacare, he says that the Founding fathers does unlike a federal mandate well-being plan, even nonetheless the 2d president and founding father John Adams handed a mandate well-being plan. Which could mean that they have got been in prefer of a mandate plan, by way of fact multiple the Congressman have been founding fathers. it particularly is in easy terms some issues it particularly is faulty with Ron Paul, i will circulate on and on.

Sane people do not propose idiotic unrealistic ideas. While what he says may seem idealistic on the surface think of the reality of the world and you will soon see how really ridiculous they are. There is a reason he is not a front runner. It is because he is a nut. People don't back a loser or one that they see as goofy, silly, or unrealistic. His ideas wouldn't make it though Congress for a variety of reasons and so even if he, by some miracle, were to be elected his loony ideas wouldn't likely make it out of committee let alone get to the floor of either chamber of the Congress. Contrary to the wishes of some the Congress still does run the country not the President.

He's a politician and ALL politicians lie through their teeth. He's grasping at straws and most of what he has promised couldn't happen with the greatest president of all time. They are just not possible but yet people still are fooled by him.
I see people say he's honest. Who knows ANYONE well enough to say they are honest. I knew a person for a very long time and I thought they were honest but then they stole many thousands of dollars from me. No one really knows if someone is honest or not and there's no such thing as an honest politician.

He is tagged as nuts because his belief's do not conform with the Repulican ways.. He is being ousted because he is a threat to the republican party... If you actually listen to him he actually says something, and has answers to how to fix things. Not the typical republican way of avoiding the facts and answers, and going along with the party's beliefs solely for the all mighty vote. This man is a great man but I agree not an electable choice as he will need the party's following and will never get it.
